I don't believe he role plays them. They all have the same perspective.
I make no bones about my moral support for [terrorist] organizations. - chegitz guevara
For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

If the US had a president named Joe 'Merica I have a feeling he'd be more like Joe the Plumber and less like Jose Murica.

While Jose Murica is certaintly admirable that's not a model to be enforced all over the place.
For example in Bolivia the corrupt elite went on a lending spree, constructing infastructure useful for industries but totally irrelevant for the people and then when the bill came back (as they knew it would) they went ahead and privitized even water, making people not having enough to... drink. Of course they sold off all their natural resources to foreign interests and local elites for a dime (the infastructure for exploiting them was already there, paid by the people...)

In other latin american countries when a " radical" (which basically means democrat) came to power murican and other domestic interests threatened his family and his own life OR if he agreed to the sell out his country, promised riches beyond belief.

And yet another example, in Venezuela, if chavez didn't have armed guards laying down the law, he would have been toppled/assassinated in a heartbeat.

Jose, is certaintly admirable but it doesn't mean it's worldwide applicable.

I mean the idea that everything is untouched inside a country and there are not outside pressures and then for some odd reason people become totalitarian *******s is very naive. Cause -> effect.

About his idea that rulers should live on a same level as the average population, I wholeheartedly agree.

A lot of the things he did - like increasing government transparency can be done regardless...

              Another view (from the Left):

He spoke truth to power, and legalized marijuana and abortion. So why are Uruguay's progressives so disappointed?

Mujica had some great ideas, but lacked the political know-how or will to actually get them through. A lot of progressives in Bolivia were left feeling that the promise was squandered.
