Games Workshop and Hasbro unite to produce tie-in.

In an unusual move American toy manufacturer Hasbro has announced that it is to team up with British games and retailing company Games Workshop to produce a product that fuses two highly popular brands into one.

My Little Primarch: Heresy Is Magic will be a mini-movie that will combine Games Workshop’s futuristic civil war in space franchise The Horus Heresy with Hasbro’s popular children’s TV show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Games Workshop’s Horus Heresy is an epic space opera popularly targeted at adolescent to mid-thirties males. It features demi-gods, demons, huge spaceships and power armoured super soldiers called Space Marines. Hasbro’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is an animated TV show about magical ponies who have adventures and work together and is aimed specifically at young children, but has a cult following from older fans, typically males from 18 to 35 who identify themselves as Bronies. The mix is unusual, to say the least.

The creative force behind the feature is Dave Green, who will both write and direct the show. Dave is the youngest brother of the famous Vlog Brothers Hank and John Green. Hank is an Emmy Award winning producer, musician and businessman. John Green is a New York Times bestselling author whose novel ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ was recently turned into a movie. Their brother Dave is better known for his work in the American food retail industry and seems like an odd choice. Mr Green told Starburst Magazine, “I have been a lifelong fan of both Warhammer 40,000 and My Little Pony. I have a unique vision of how this very special fusion will be created and My Little Primarch will be must see television.”

The 80-minute feature, subtitled The Horse Heresy, will use CGI to create a stop-motion effect, similar to that of the LEGO Movie, and will come out in April 2016.

Fresh off their landmark deal to secure the rights to HOUSE OF CARDS, the much-anticipated television series and political thriller from Executive Producer David Fincher and Kevin Spacey, comes the news that Netflix has given the go-ahead to make Nathan Fillion’s dream a reality.

“Continuing our tradition of breaking new ground, Netflix is proud to announce that we have reached a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to produce 26 new episodes of Joss Whedon’s critically-acclaimed series FIREFLY,” said Netflix Senior VP of Development Lirpa Sloof in a statement released today. “Gripping, serialized one-hour dramas have become an integral aspect of the Netflix experience over the years and FIREFLY, thanks to Joss Whedon’s unique vision and his remarkable group of actors, goes a long way in helping to further our commitment to bringing our audience the best entertainment Hollywood has to offer.”

According to Sloof, Whedon, alongside brother Jed, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jane Espenson have been quietly working on scripts and, as a result, will be ready to begin production once work finishes on his current project, The Avengers.
