I found that there is almost no correlation (.05) between a state's Brady score and the rate of gun murders*. There is a slight negative correlation (-.33) between ownership rates and gun murders, and a pretty strong correlation (.8) between population density and murder rates.

In other words, your best bet to not be shot to death is to live in the boonies and surround yourself with gun owners. Gun laws won't do ****, and might actually hurt you.

*This is in part because DC has no Brady Score. If it were assigned one, the correlation could go as high as .42.

A man who is driving erratically including passing cars on the freeway shoulder notices that one other driver is filming him on his cellphone as evidence for the police. The enraged erratic driver (who is a doctor who works for a state prison) pulls out a gun and opens fire. Of the 1300 reported road rage incidents last year 300 of them ended up with a fatality.
