So, anything that you do NOT like?
I know it is a bit late, but I have been playing a bit of civ5 lately (and even just tried civ4 again for an hour or so). The last time I played lots of civ was quite a while back (civ4). I have been playing a small world (what I can do on my macbook air... at least in the early game civ4 is easier on it)
So my thoughts:
The low city count is nice, it allows me to focus on having fun, instead of on managing cities.
1UPT could be really great, but it seems that the computer just spams lots of units. This makes it less interesting.... and dilutes the importance of many of the special units. When they have tons of infantry, why have a modern tank when you only have a couple of aluminum in the game? Oil is a bit more common (in my experience), but still you don't really want to use it for anything but planes/ships (because of the 'free' land troops). I think the solution to this is to place more stringent limits on units in general.
A hard cap (number of units = number of population of your cities, but in the mid game+ this is way too many)? Drop the amount of support/supplied? Is there a mod? I don't mean to screw with those who aren't near resources, but if you have 4 modern armor it should be a significant part of your army... (in a small world where you have 4-7 cities)
I like roads being for connecting cities or military transport. Pretty realistic and means that I don't put roads everywhere.
I like the limited resources, makes me consider. Except as noted above, due to the unlimited resources for certain types of units.
I like the defensive cities. Means that I don't have to think about what cities have a unit in them/etc. I can still garrison a city to increase it's bonus.
I like city-states.
I like the graphics.
I should play more games of Civ5 and some more of Civ4 now that I have it installed. Civ4 is definitely more refined, but I think Civ5 has promise.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so
certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

I mentioned it, there are too many units.
I wish espionage/religion were better implemented.
I haven't played that many games...

I assume he means piety as social policy, which is correct and gives (among other things) happiness boni to temples, monuments and monasteries. Has been there all the time AFAIK

Indeed. Piety is a quite useful civic tree.
I just don't like the civic system.
I don't know what I've been told!
