When I was growing up, the block next to the Catholic school that we attended had lots of LARGE Catholic families. (up to 14 kids) Based on the rumor mills, most of them, at some point, started to use Birth control to avoid any more. I guess enough is enough. But don't bother. Ben lives in his own VERY little world.

Why would it surprise me? You do know I'm a convert, right? I've seen plenty of folks on both sides of the line, and I used to be on the other side myself. My change on this issue is part of why I became a Catholic in the first place - thanks to some lovely Catholic ladies who convinced me otherwise.

Actually quite the opposite.

If you're baptised Catholic, you are Catholic. If you leave the Church the Church still considers you a Catholic and you are always welcome to return, as a Catholic to the faith.

The difference is between someone who is Catholic and someone who is Catholic in good standing with the Church. There are plenty of reasons why a Catholic might fall out of standing, and one of them is to publicly dissent with what the Church teaches.

Which is why it's the Catholics who are getting their windows smashed in for opposition to gay marriage. If it were about 'religious freedom', then it's proponents wouldn't be forcing Catholics to make the decision between their faith and their work. This is also why 'conscience protections' are opposed by gay marriage folks, because you can't have someone with the temerity to actually disagree with gay marriage and not get destroyed.
