Fisker Karma or like
Edit: not because it's green - just because it'll kick your arse.

Given that one can get a free car in 2 years with a 30k limit, (meaning less than 40k), and the driver likes to go very fast, what would you suggest?aesthetics matter. Person in question likes last gen eclipses, evo x, mazda6, other fast, cool looking cars. Also one I won't die in if I crash during a race. Thanks.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

May I suggest a reconditioned '99 Pontiac Grand AM SE coupe. You should be able to find one rebuilt to spec for under $20,000. You can comfortably cruise around 120 kph, but can do significantly better. Make sure you have wide tires; since the car is built close to the ground, this will negate the chances of rolling over at high speeds.99_pontiac_grandam_se_coupe.jpg

Pretty simple. Take a mid-priced two-door car you like and make sure to get it with a v6 engine.
Honestly, the best sports coupe being made right now in your price range is the Hyundai Genesis, but few give Hyundai any respect for being cool.

Then it comes down to what kind of racing you want it to be best at. Quarter mile? Drifting? Rally? NASCAR? They all have cars that fit them.

I think you should get a car that has an engine. With four wheels. And a steering wheel.
This is where an awesome Mark Twain quote would be, but Apolyton says it would be too many lines. :(
I ended up with a Mazda 6 due to cash considerations, but here's what I really wanted.
The Hyundai Sonata kicks ass, and you can get the hybrid for under $30k.

Dad recently got one of those. The hybrid isn't worth the price difference even with tax breaks, though.

I think my next car may be an Acura TSX. Or a Lexus IS250 AWD.

I'm curious about AWD sedans--how good is the Subaru Legacy? Looks like it's a decent price.

I've heard both very good and very bad things about Subaru. From people I know who have them, you either get a vehicle that never has problems or a vehicle with nothing but problems.
FWIW, I would caution against Mazda. At least until they officially don't use any Ford parts. My '04 Mazda 3 is becoming quite expensive, as all of the Ford parts keep dying with alarming (and expensive) regularity.

I test drove a couple of Subarus a few years back when I was car shopping and while the mechanics were top notch the interiors were chintzy with hard plastic dashboards and cheap fabric seats. Basically they make cars to a price point so if they spend more on the drive train then they have to save money some where else and it shows; that's not a bad thing because if you don't care about having a luxury interior then you can get a very well performing car which is well equipped for a reasonable price.

The track I went to last weekend was two miles. I rode in some sweet cars! There were three lotuses there.
They're not in close proximity. They space them out. And you're only allowed to pass on the straightaways with a point.
that looks silly.
pretty!!

Oh! My parents finally got a divorce. Weird conditions, but now there's more money to be spent on me since he won't be buying her ridiculous jewelry all the time! hurrah.

It does not! Moreover, no one will even think of calling your car a rice rocket, which might happen if you buy a Celica (do they still make them, btw?).
