Giants are going to let RT McKensie walk via FA on March 13th. At 32 years old, he may be past his prime, but some O-Lineman can play great close to 40. He could very possibly have 6 good seasons left in him.

Reports are that 12 teams have contacted Peyton Manning to express interest. He supposedly will be favoring cities with good weather and/or domes.

Quick semi-random handicap of known suitors chances of signing him:

    Miami 2:1
    Arizona 5:2
    Seattle 8:1
    Washington 10:1
    NY Jets 12:1
    Denver 20:1
    Tennessee 25:1
    Kansas City 25:1
    Cleveland 100:1

Supposedly this isn't going to take too long -- maybe within a week or so.

Whoever has number 18 in those cities could be getting ready for a big payday.
The OT at APOLYTON is like watching the Special Olympics. Certain people try so hard to debate despite their handicaps.

I'd hate to have to make that choice - great QB when healthy but is he?? But some of those teams can't be worse off if he isn't.

If he goes to the favorite Dolphins, that would be 3rd year WR Roberto Wallace:

    Colts are clearing house:

The Colts are fielding telephone calls from teams interested in trading for perennial Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Colts also released halfback Joseph Addai, tight end Dallas Clark, safety Melvin Bullitt, linebacker Gary Brackett and quarterback Curtis Painter, the team confirmed.
    Dallas Clark?!

In other news, my Giants released Brandon Jacobs.

Thought this was interesting regarding Jacobs:

Jacobs, the Giants' fourth-round pick in 2005, is fourth in franchise history with 4,849 rushing yards and has a franchise record 56 rushing touchdowns.
Really? The Giants really had some bad RB's over the decades, I guess.

There was the Frank Gifford guy .

Also, Otis Anderson (though not nearly as well known as Gifford).

    Giants.

His Pro Bowl selections came at three different positions—defensive back, running back, and wide receiver.
    Selected 8 times.

I remember back when Tucker Frederickson was the great white hope in NY.

I also remember being shocked at the "pretty good" Otis Anderson setting all kinds of team records.

Yeah, I'm old. I saw the Bears beat Y.A. Tittle for the champioship in '63.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Rams and the Redskins have agreed to terms on a deal that will send the second overall pick in the 2012 draft to Washington. The Redskins undoubtedly will pick quarterback Robert Griffin III. (Or, at the very worst, Andrew Luck.)

Glazer says that the teams will swap first-round picks in 2012, with St. Louis taking the No. 6 pick. The Rams also get two future first-round picks and additional selections, one of which is believed to be a second-rounder.

    oh, and...:loljets:

Quarterback Mark Sanchez agreed to a three-year contract extension with the New York Jets on Friday night, meaning he's signed through 2016. He had two years remaining on his rookie deal.

    ....

The contract is a three-year extension for $40.5 million total, $13.5 million per year, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The extension gives Sanchez five total years for $58.25 million, with $20.5 million fully guaranteed with no off-sets in 2012 and 2013, according to the source.

The $58.25 million gives Sanchez is the seventh highest among NFL quarterbacks, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Rams already have the best 2012 draft.

Brandon Jacobs was released Friday by the New York Giants after he could not reach agreement on a restructured deal. The running back spent seven seasons with New York, winning two Super Bowls.
Good. He's an ass. Maybe he'll end up working on a garbage truck.

Funny that while the media was talking about the Jets releasing or replacing him, the Sanchize got a contract extension:

The deal includes $20.5 million in guarantees for 2012 and 2013 and $40.5 million in "new" money, bringing his total over five years to $58.25 million, according to sources. He can make an additional $10 million in escalators.

The $58.25 million gives Sanchez the seventh-highest financial package among NFL quarterbacks, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

This is already being characterized as an "apology extension."

Looking at this, and at the Carson Palmer deal... the Cutler deal looks better and better. Hell, The Beloved only gave up two #1s and got Johnny Knox in the deal.

It's apparently a restructuring more than anything, and the three new years have a team option before each one. There's no guaranteed money after year 2. Makes a lot more sense that way, but it's not exactly a huge vote of confidence from Tannenbaum...seems more like an attempt to save face on a high draft pick while clearing some short-term cap space and still leaving the door open to dumping him if an opportunity presents itself.
