Why would he need to intervene? Some low down flunky sees it and things "Oh ****, it's Obama's aunt! I'll fix this!" and creates a **** storm
Yes, Obama used his power or position to influence the outcome.
No, Obama did nothing
Giant pandas intervened, after eating a 48" pizza topped w/ bananas

Come on. Does Obama really expect us to believe he didn't intervene in this case?![]()

I'd argue that Obama has a responsibility to find out if anyone responsible to the Executive Branch intervened.

I don't blame him for doing it. Helping a family member is understandable.

Wrong. Illegal is illegal.

Well, I don't see how people should be expected to treat their family members the same way they treat strangers.![]()

So if your relative robs a bank, that's OK. Rape? OK, too? Murder?

This isn't anything like bank robbery, rape, or murder. Who is she hurting by staying in the US?

Illegal is illegal. If her, why not all? Yeah, I know, some will say let them all come in. Undocumented. No borders. I disagree.

That's how you think government should be run? On the basis of nepotism?Well, I don't see how people should be expected to treat their family members the same way they treat strangers.
Given that the article says she is living in public housing, I'd say the taxpayer. This isn't anything like bank robbery, rape, or murder. Who is she hurting by staying in the US?

It's illegal IF he intervened.
In the UK we have this innocent until proven guilty thing. Works great.

Mike, of course. It's just that the chain of events seem...implausible. An existing deportation order overturned with no explanation? How often does that happen?

Mild compared to what? Abuse of power is abuse of power. No, but using government influence to prevent having a family member sent back to a developing country is pretty mild. I don't think people should be comfortable with family members living in poverty.
Mike,
I understand, but Obama campaigned on transparency and openness, and an end to politics as usual.

What's the difference between libertarianism and retardation?
This is where an awesome Mark Twain quote would be, but Apolyton says it would be too many lines. :(

"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work...After eight years of this Administration, we have just as much unemployment as when we started... And an enormous debt to boot!" — Henry Morgenthau, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Treasury secretary, 1941.

It was known before the election.

Honestly, I have absolutely no inclination to get worked up over this; it's one thing to award family members multi-million dollar contracts, it's quite another to keep to keep your poor old auntie in her home.

I don't have a problem with it either. But hey, I support Iran-Contra... so don't take my lack of concern regarding indescretions of power too heavily.
In her taxpayer subsidized home, you mean.Honestly, I have absolutely no inclination to get worked up over this; it's one thing to award family members multi-million dollar contracts, it's quite another to keep to keep your poor old auntie in her home.
I might not have as big a problem with this, either, if Aunt Zeituni didn't live in public housing, and/or if Obama agreed to personally pay for her.
Except that it would still be an abuse of power, and extremely unfair to anyone not related to Obama.

There are battles that are worth fighting.
This is not one of them.

It is if he unduly influenced the Judicial Branch. In concept, it's worse than anything Nixon ever did.

Preventing the deportation of your aunt to a third world country is worse than spying on political opponents and abusing power in an attempt to cover up?
Abuse of power to violate the separation of powers is certainly worse than spying on political opponents, and about the same as using your power to cover it up.
So, not worse, but the same. Good point![]()
