I think he got scared when he saw my army closing in on his cities while he was only focused on one of mine. seriously couldn't someone log in as france and call a cease fire so that whoever takes over is not going to be put right in the middle of a war?

I don't really know why the new player declared war on the Dutch superpower and then just disappeared. If I was a bit paranoid I would say It was staged for the benefit of some other player who perhaps wanted French land...

the story is simple actually. the french completely misread a message I sent and drew the completely wrong conclusions and without talking to me about it decided to declare war on holland to help mongolia, even though I had made peace with holland. it was an action that came from a massive disjunction of information. when I tried to explain to france that him declaring war on holland was NOT what I wanted, he got angry and left. childish, irresponsible and plain stupid. thats what happened.

Oz - have you asked Wittlich to play the French? He is a very regular player - but as this would be his second diplo game, he may not be into posting much. But just to have a real player control the team, take a diplomatic approach of some sort, and post occasionally would be good.
