Skype recording for Polycast

I'm supposed to record my mike using this program. All I seem to be able to do is get a little meter to go up and down in response to my singing 'I've been working on a railroad'. Don't think that's good enough. Here's a pic of the deal, what to do?

You can see the meter in red. I'm very proud that I got it to move.

I have been using this program and when it is working you will see a graph moving in that big open area

I am not doing anymore Polycasts but thats what I do remember

I can't run Civ IV on this comp and I'm too cheap to go out and get a new one.

Thats the interesting part

DanQ has a list of what to do.

You will need to save as a special extension aand upload to a site.

But again, he can share the details Lancer

I did the following and its telling me to download 'Lame'. I DID THAT :Grrr:

Man I hate this tech stuff. I wonder why Dan doesn't just record the conferance call and let the chips fall where they will.

1. Place "lame_enc.dll" in the following folder on your PC:

C:\Windows\System32

2. In "Audacity", go to Edit>Preferences
3. Look for the "MP3 Export Library" area -- it contains a 'Find Library' button.
4. Click on the 'Find Library' button and follow the on-screen prompts.
5. If prompted for any ID tags, leave them blank and proceed with the encoding.

LS, it's a total, colossal, and apparently formitable waste of time. That said, I happen to have some to waste at the moment and its the only path to becoming a mod and getting to ban Ming.

I just tried to upload a screenshot of my Civ III game using the Ancient Med mod and the other Snoopy's graphics mod but it won't let me do that either.

Anyway, it improves Civ III alot.

What message did you get?

I use Photoshop to copy to under 800 X 600

In addition I use Photobucket, and upload that and copy the URL and with Photobucket can set the size I want and convert from bmp to jpeg

Let me know Lancer and when I get home I could help additionally.

Eh, it's no biggy. I used Imageshack and tried it the same way as the screenshot of the 'Audacity' page above.

The screenshot is kind of interesting but not worth worrying about. Not like anyone is going to start playing Civ III again over it sooo...

Regarding sending the deal to DQ, he said I could also send an Audacity type file or something along those lines, so I'll try to figure that out next.

After clicking on the 'Find Library' button, go to the following directory where "lame_enc.dll" should then be located:

C:\Windows\System32

Audacity should find it and show it for you to select. If you're still experiencing difficulties and would rather not continue with the ability to export as MP3, use the OGG format instead. (File>Export and then choose 'Ogg Vorbis Files' from the "Save as type" menu.)

There is backup software I use that records the entire conversation but is only used for emergency purposes (and if there happens to be something useful recorded before/after we've recorded our own voices).

There are two primary reasons that the recording of the entire conversation is for backup purposes only. First, the audio quality of the backup recording is no where near as good as what can be accomplished through recording's one own voice 'at source'. Second, it can only provide two channels for all voices: mine (as having the backup software) on one channel and everyone else's on the other. This makes editing much more difficult.

I was just wondering, but thanks for the explanation.

I did that with the lame deal, but I unzipped it to the file C:\Windows\System32 like I would unzip a modification into the requested tweedle. Didn't see where it would automaticly do it, but I'll try again.

I figured out how to record an OGG but not how to ship it off to someone.

Welcome -- it was a fair question.

There should be another step in those instructions I believe now with version 1.3.x of Audacity... after 'Find Library', click on the 'Browse' button to go to the directory where you placed the DLL file. This extra step wasn't need with version 1.2.x of the program if I recall correctly.

In any event, your issue here prompted me to considerably rewrite the instructions file that accompanies the "lame_enc.dll" file. These instructions now not only reflect the above but also expands on them greatly generally. This updated instructions file also now includes how to make a recording, export as MP3 and then import that MP3. To get these revised instructions, re-download the ZIP file using the link I provided earlier.

... but not how to ship it off to someone.

Those are separate instructions that will be PMed to you after recording the show.
