I ended up with another cultural victory, my 4th in 6 games. I was just too lazy to mount any naval attack. The AIs agreed with me and no wars were fought until Tokugawa declared on Asoka 3 turns before the end of the game. Kublai got very big and was building spaceship parts at the end.Comment

I had a great time with this game. I botched my plan, though, so I didn't submit.
My plan was to go for an Apostolic Palace (AP) victory because I've never done one before. I wasn't expecting the AI to ever vote for me, but I figured I'd make a couple of colonies and let one be my buddy and one be the opponent in the AP elections.
However, never having made a colony before, I didn't know that you needed a minimum of two cities on a "continent" in order to break it off as a colony. Once I learned that (after a lot of forum browsing), I tried to recover without playing too hard.
I should have settled more islands (with seafood) to boost my population and therefore votes, but I kept thinking I could grow my population faster than the AI. As a result, I think I kept losing AP diplo victory votes. Needing 75% of the vote, I probably got 70%, 71%, 69%, 70%, 68%, 65%, 63%, and so on. The trend never turned in my favor.
But I certainly enjoyed the game. Archipelago maps are fun for some of the more peaceful strategies.
Now...I'll have to see if I can actually get a submission in for Games 9 or 10....Comment
