Nice, it's a great game.![]()

I got System Shock 2 running on my dual core Intel XP computer. It is amazingly sweet.
I remember when I first got the game, the load up screens took so long that I could go get myself a nice cuppa in between.
Now they load up in literally 2 or 3 seconds.
Booya!
[Edit:] Here's how I got it to work, as a quick link post.
1. This was the thread that got me all set up in one fell swoop.
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/inde...pic,392.0.html
2. The executable from there did most of the hard work for me. The only thing left over was a slight bug in the inventory screen (inventory mouseclick would fire the gun, rather than select and move stuff), which I solved by going here:
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/inde...opic,78.0.html
The optionals - Rebirth creature model upgrade and SHTUP texture upgrade
3. The Rebirth upgrade is a beta mod that's well worth downloading. This thread has instructions but be absolutely sure to make your game "mod ready" (this will involve a quick .cfg edit in Wordpad but you must do it or the game will behave very oddly - see thread for more details).
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/inde...topic,8.0.html
4. The SHTUP upgrade is a texture upgrade mod that changes textures in the game to be high-definition. This works well with Rebirth and makes the game pretty damn near comparable with the current generation of FPSes graphics wise.
(We all know that plotwise and mechanics wise, SS2 is still ahead of current FPS games... 10 years after its initial release!)
SHTUP can be found here:

Are you using one of those High- Def Packs? (SHTUP/ REBIRTH)
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Nope, I'm just playing through the vanilla game. (With multiplayer patch... more for the bug fixes rather than actual MP action.)
What would you recommend? I'm getting to the point where I can beat the game in just under nine hours on Hard, so I'm looking for a new mod or new levels. I have found ttlg.com (in fact I registered there before I even registered here... way back in 1999) but there's little guidance on which mods are most suitable.
Thoughts?

I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.

You can stack both SHTUP and Rebirth; both are graphical enhancements that improve textures and models. I've never tried out any other mods for it, but I highly recommend both of those.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.

I got System Shock 2 running on my XP box, but it somehow corrupted Windows Media Player. I had to use Media Player Classic instead.
I thought the game was good until I realised monsters respawned.

They don't respawn. They just wander in from areas of the ship you cannot access.![]()

I'm trying Ponterbee Station by Christine. That is a very good mod and well recommended to anybody who likes this game. It takes up after the events of SS2 and can be easily found through Google.

This is one of those games like EU that ive been hearing about forever and havnt gotten around to trying. Still worth playing i take it? (i like classics so will pick up up anyway...someday...)

Oh, my, yes it is worth playing. That is, unless you have a problem playing a game with 7 year old graphics.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
I find the latest graphical orgies to be very overrated.

SS2- the only first person shooter I've ever played

Can someone provide details on how they got it to work? I installed it, but when I try to start the game, I get an error message that says it encountered a problem and needs to close.![]()

I think I had problems when I specified a directory to install the game into. When I let it do its default choice there wasn't a problem. Don't know if that will help.Originally posted by Lord Avalon

Head over to Through The Looking Glass and hit their forums. They have a sticky thread for tech issues with the game, which should give you all the details you need to get it running.

I dunno, I think Private does them pretty well, but then again they do have the funds to produce good quality camerawork and to try at least for some plot development and characterization (even though it will never match up to mainstream films). The women look like they're enjoying it and in control of the whole screen presence, so I don't personally have as much of an issue with the whole industry there that I usually do with lower quality stuff, where there could well be a degradation element to it.Originally posted by Kataphraktoi

John B. Root is also worth a look, being as he is a photographer who'd come from various normal jobs and then realized when he was getting old that he should stick to what he really wants to do professionally. It cost him his marriage, but the man knows how to photograph!
...erm...
It has belatedly dawned on me that you might have actually been talking about video games.
In which case, ignore everything I've just typed. Halo! Halo! Call of Duty! Bioshock!

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

That mod/patch (and inventory bug tip) from Strangebedfellows did the trick!

I've edited the first post of this thread to include links to the various bug fixes and also to the Rebirth and SHTUP patches. Thanks!

I have just played through the game using the SHTUP and Rebirth mods. It took me about 7h30m and boy did I love every moment!Well worth going back to if you can!
7h30m? You must have rushed.![]()

And just completed the game using SHTUP and Rebirth on Impossible level in 7 h 30m.
I think it's time to give this game a rest and go on to Bioshock.
You're in for a treat.![]()

ZOMG there's a shotgun!
I love this game already!

Oh, it's worth noting that the message boards I mentioned in the first post are populated by trolls. I've complained to the admins because the trolls generally go after new visitors, but they have yet to do anything serious.
You've been warned. The sad thing is, the worst trolls are the best contributors.

Christine, a user at TTLG, has released a new fan mission called "Have a Nice Holiday" or something similar. It's a tongue in cheek mission with some pretty amazing open-air environments, sandy beaches, and (as you'd expect) homicidal monkeys throwing fruits at you.
