Help Make Our Birthday Feature

On July 26th, this website will turn 9 years old. We want to celebrate with you as always, but we're also looking for some assistance!

If you have an idea for our birthday feature, and just as if not more critically are able to help out, please detail your suggestions and participation offers below. Thanks in advance.

Your original reply had a note about maintenance... not sure why you eliminated it, but it was a constructive note. On that front there is work behind the scenes -- more on that a later time.

I suggest an Apolyton Reunion. Members try to contact old friends and get them to return on a specific day or week. You could try it out for the 9th; if it works you could do it up big for the 10th.

How about a treasure hunt across Poly.

9 clues as to the location of 9 newly inserted Words (in very Large Bold, all 9 words re arranged to make a sentence, celebrating Poly birthday) in the edited first posts of threads.

Can you edit posts in archived threads? If not then use current ones.
PM solutions to DanQ or Rah or Ming.
First nine get reward ( teeshirt?) special title?
Second nine get whatever tba, PC 200+?
and maybe a third nine level of reward PCR

i think something along the lines of a free special user-title giveaway contest. Similar to the Apolyton Sage contest that Zoid above so proudly displays as one of the victors of.

And, if so, I will be the first to nominate myself for candidacy

I would suggest something Civ4-specific, maybe a 9-player MP game with a special title or a month of PLUS as a prize.

A more general celebration suggestion would be something like what Google does at holidays -- special 9th birthday graphics incorporated into the Poly logo at the top of each page.

Of course not. We're looking for assistance primarily because to date the birthday feature has been driven almost entirely by the staff and administration, but there is more to this site than the staff and administration. If not for you and other community members, there would be no need for a staff or really an administration.

At the same time, we're working on other elements behind the scenes... some of which has been revealed publicly and others not. We recognize when we're stretched to our limits timewise and numberwise, and we want to be best ensure this year's birthday feature lives up the decent standards of years past.

You get out what you put into something; the more of us that contribute constructively, the more we all get out of this endeavour positively.

If someone is willing and able to volunteer to co-ordinate this effort, please contact Ming, rah, Wouter or myself.
