What?? Are you ****ing kidding me? We have to through all this again just because you two boneheads can't get along? There's 70+ people in this game and you go and piss off the only one that has managed to host this game after 6 months of preparation? Nice work Keygen!Originally posted by Keygen
I guess we'll have to find another host...![]()

You weren't exactly subtle in your criticism. I would've been pretty pissed off as well...
I love being beaten by women - Lorizael

I can't find any criticism in my posts prior to Elucidus burst but I might be wrong. I won't claim that I speak English fluently, it's not my native language.
So even if it is my fault and I am responsible for pissing him off does this mean he should **** up everyone else too?!?!

Just an observation...
Why were we voting with options that don't exist in the type of generator we decided to use???
11 contenants does not equal "snakey contenants"... it equals islands.
Should have just used the ingame generator, had Elucidus preview it for quality, and went with that. ALOT easier.![]()

We voted for the in-game map type and whether we'll use planet generator or not at the same time, for saving time. It came up that more people wanted planet generator than not.
The closest to Archipelago (Snaky Islands) in my opinion is what we'll go with, 11 continents, one for each team.

Someone should have pointed out that planet generator cannot do archipelago. The closest to Archipelago (Snaky Islands)
Anyway you cut it, 11 continents is not archipelago... it is islands.
I hate to make this any more complex, but we should really decide if we want archipelago, or planet generator, because obvously you cannot have both.
In a way I'm glad this got messed up at the last minute. I'm sure people would have been scratching their heads when they realized that no civs were shareing a landmass with another civ.
Those who built up early defence, or a rush attack, because of that feature of archapeligo would have really been done a disservice.

I agree with Pinchak that when I saw 11 continents I was rather miffed. I thought we'd voted on continents, not islands, and thus not to have separation of civs like this.
Keygen, if you can't see criticism in your posts, then you need to read them again. I understand completely why Elucidus was frustrated.

Indeed. 11 continents is far from the map generator screenshots of snaky continents we've seen earlier...Originally posted by Pinchak

Wow, so it's a "Continents/One continent per team" setting instead of Archipelago or Continents or whatever else. When you make polls, please try to use non-ambiguous statements.
Knowledge is Power

The following was emailed to all team leaders on the 13th of April, over a month ago. Read it carefully.
Hi,
All teams will have to decide on the map and the difficulty level since we had a draw.
Choose between:
1) Map
a) Archipelago (Snaky Continents)
b) Continents.
2) Difficulty
a) Emperor
b) Prince
3) Planet Generator
a) Yes
b) No
Note that you should vote for planet generator apart from the map.
About Planet Generator
You may specify more options for planet generator if you vote for it and want to, otherwise the defaults (recommended/default/normal/standard) will be used instead. If we choose to play ‘Archipelago‘ but with Planer Generator then 10 continents (one for each team) will be used by default unless the majority chooses another option. Likewise if we choose to play ‘Continents’ but with Planet Generator then 2 continents (5 teams over each continent) will be used unless otherwise specified. If we choose not to use Planet Generator at all then the game generator will be used. I strongly recommend everyone tries planet generator first so that you don’t find yourself in unpleasant situation later.
Note that in any case the ‘World Builder’ will be used to determine if all teams get fair starting positions and if not act accordingly either by regenerating the map or relocate each team that doesn’t get a fair starting position.
Please make it as soon as possible.
After this is done and the host is finalized the game can start. The rules, if any, can follow (a little) later, won’t be a problem.
Thank you all.
Costas/Keygen

Indeed the photo of the snakey continents (the agreed upon setting) was posted on numerous occasions.
It seems that a large proportion of the teams have been suprised by the final settings used........

I don't need to read my posts, I do know what I wrote and from Elucidus' reply it is obvious that he was frustrated as you noted. I was stating some facts and my opinion in bare language as many people do here, with no mood of criticizing - I am not that rude - but obviously I passed the wrong impression. I did apologize but I was accused of pretending. Why the hell would I do that? I do a volunteer job here, I have nothing to gainOriginally posted by snoopy369

Well, i don't know about my whole team but i'm surprisedAnd game settings look boring as well. It should have been something more fun like Conquest victory only
Overwise, IMHO 1 continent per team sucks. Well, i have an option not to be involved in that game so it's ok i guess.

Yes, and if it looks like a sincere apology to Keygen then i'm a mother Teresa. For me, it looks like a well-crafted insult - the meaning of words may be considered neutral but the conveyed message between the words is obvious even to a non-native english speaker like me. There are just too many phrases that are specifically and carefully made for that purpose - i say, about 90% of that post.
P.S. Of course, i have nothing to gain from that post because i don't know either involved party. So it's not an insult and if i made such impression with that post then i offer a sincere apologyOriginally posted by Keygen
You're touchy, aren't you?
My apologies then, I didn't mean to offend you, that was not my intent. Besides I don't have anything against you, on the contrary. It's strange though as I can't find something offending within my posts, perhaps my strait language looks kind offending to you?
I might have jumped into conclusions, again my apologies, but you didn't do exactly what I emailed to you and I though you simply hadn't received my email.
It is not only you that have put lot of time on this, and if I had a spear computer I would host it myself so you could play. I have thanked you for this but on the contrary you have not thanked anyone for their part. And I must say your writing tone does not honor you but that's OK.![]()

Personally I don't care what settings we use as long as we end up with the settings that were voted and agreed upon by all teams, but I speak only for myself, not my team, nor the 70+ other players who have signed up for this game.
My point is that it would be nice if all the behind the scenes discussion was done in public, prior to it being enacted, so IF someone had an objection they could voice it before the game was started and were faced with raising an objection and possibly stopping the game.....
I appreciate all the efforts you have put into setting this game up Keygen, just would like to be kept in the lopp as much as possible.
Cheers![]()
anything else decided upon?

IF we can persuade Elucidus to return, or failing that, find a new host I suggest we use the setting that were agreed upon by the team votes, with the civ/leader that were initially chosen.
Any extra settings not covered by the team vote could be decided upon by the host and everyone can just get on with the game as the host has deemed fit...........

I think not Paddy, they commented before that you need to have a windows based server to run Civ, and they are using Linux.........![]()

sure would have been easier....

I have tried to replicate the above settings with Planet Generator and it is certainly possible to do.
A little experimentation with custom single player game and world builder produced some wicked maps.
But ultimately I am easy with the in game one, provided we have some sort of contact from the start with at least some of the other civs.
I think a continent each will be veryfor quite a few turns

Yours in gaming,

No offence Keygen, but that explaination that was initially posted is confusing.
This is verified by the fact that many people were shocked to learn the reality of what happened regarding map setup.
Is your explaination technicly correct? Yes.
Personally, I think the main issue is with how the poll was structured. The first poll should have been "ingame generator, or planet generator" (since they are mutually exclusive depending on map type).
Then a follow up poll on settings based on the outcome of the first poll.
Trying to roll everything into one poll leads to confusion.
