  • "Prototyping CivIV" (Part 3/5) Video

During ApolyCon '06 held last month in Timonium, Maryland, developer Firaxis Games' Soren Johnson and Dorian Newcomb gave a presentation on "Prototyping for Civilization IV" at event venue Holiday Inn Select-Baltimore North. What can now be considered the first version of this session was conducted during the Game Developers Conference this past May; this time, more in-game CivIV demonstrations were possible and available time overall was available.

In the third of five installments the incorporation of religion into CivIV is addressed first from the practicalities involved to the sensitivities observed. Shifting gears, the game's Version "E" from May 2004 is analyzed where graphics begin to take priority in the development cycle. The sophistication of the technology tree and Artificial Intelligence (AI) coding follow before reaching April 2005 and Version "F". Below is a screenshot from this production:

The video is in Windows Media format, 20m14s in length and 45.1MB in size. Part 4 is scheduled for release on September 1st.
