    the short and skinny

    540 -moving and healing forces
    560 -adopted caste system
    560 -research currency
    580-680 building troops/some growth items

640 -building CI in one of our cities

just a little taste of some defense

the chariots are on blockade duty, they were smart enough to move the settler back in

The other southern city is being assaulted, eliminated 1 spearman, using the chariot for healing only

It appears to be taking longer than expected and I have other games that require my attention so I won't be able to finish this turn until the weekend. Sorry, I hope no one else is hanging out for a turn

P.S. Yes I am rather reluctant to attack Kyoto, it is extremely well defended!

Same problem here. It looks as though FeMme was lucky enough to get the file ("finish the turn" implies that she has started). If not, we need Platypus Rex to repost it.

720AD FeMme takes over from Platypus Rex

    A few tweaks were made:
    - Vetulonia starts to build a Great Person
    - Thebes puts courthouse on hold to build a quick Missionary for Tokyo
    - Osaka stops building walls for a bit to train a settler

    740AD

    - Tokugawa sends a sword and an archer towards Edo, we attack his sword with an axe who is killed then finish him off with a sword
    - Vetulonia trains a Spearman then starts work on an axeman

    760AD

    - Thebes builds a Missionary then continues on courthouse
    - Memphis builds a library then starts on a Confusian temple
    - a Scientist is put to work here also to increase chances of getting a Great Scientist

    780AD

    - Chichen Itza is built in a far away land!
    - Elephantine is forced to abandon work on this and starts instead on a library
    - Egyptian wisemen discover the knowledge of Currency enabling more trade routes and the construction of a central market place. This will surely help our Treasury!
    - Thebes builds a courthouse then starts on another Missionary as it is brought to my attention that the Vetulonians are still unenlightened heathens!
    - Tokugawa moves an archer from Satsuma onto our dye but is quickly crushed by our war chariot

    800AD

    - Confusionism spreads to Tokyo and the people embrace the new spiritual teachings
    - Heliopolis builds a granary then starts constructing a library
    - Edo also builds a granary then begins work on a Lighthouse as food is not in abundance and our fishermen need help seeing the shoreline in the wee hours of the morning!
    - It is decided to adopt Organised Religion so that our cites can construct buildings faster, as we are such a spiritual nation anarchy is easily avoided

    820AD

    - A Wisemen's Conference is held in a far away land and on his return our representative informs me that the Japanese are the wealthiest nation, followed closely by our marvelous nation. The Romans came sixth and the Greeks a puny seventh!
    - Tokugawa asks for peace but is denied as I have plans to take Satsuma shortly!
    - Vetulonia builds an axeman then starts on a library
    - Thebes builds a Missionary then begins work on an axeman to defend our beautiful capital

    840AD

    - Anada the Great Prophet is born in Thebes. While my underlings haggle over what to do with him he is sent towards Memphis, our religious capital until a decision can be made
    - some workers are redirected towards our southern lands to do some much needed land improvement

    860AD

    - After careful consideration and much deliberation it is decided to use our Great Prophet to research Theology, alas Christianity has already been discovered but Theocracy will surely aid our nation and now we are able to build a new World Wonder
    - Thebes completes an axeman then starts immediately on the Sistine Chapel ( which is greatly aided by our Marble supply)
    - Memphis has completed a temple then starts work on a granary
    - Confusionism spreads to the once heathen city of Vetulonia and the people rejoice! Hallelujah!

    880AD

    - Osaka builds a settler then continues with city walls
    - A library is built in Elephantine then work is started on a granary
    - Satsuma is destroyed and 111 gold is plundered from the treasury

    900AD

    - Our wisemen discover the knowledge of the Compass then bend their minds to the idea of the Calender in the hope that this will reveal the secrets of plantation building!
    - NEWS FLASH: A Greek galley carrying a settler and archer is spotted south of Osaka, he could be heading for our next city site!
    - An axeman fortifies on the city ruins in the hope that this will deter any foreign settlers (once our city is safely built he will pillage this city ruin so that our workforce can till the lands)
    - Tokugawa sends a sword towards our borders and we attack with our chariot first who damages him but withdraws before he is killed, then our sword finishes him off but takes a rather harsh beating!

    920AD

    - The Greek galley appears to be heading north but could still back track and drop off his cargo and really stuff things up!
    - Our settler moves onto his new city site (a jungle covered hill with some fish a couple of squares West and a Rice paddy over the channel which will be very useful if we can secure and farm it
    - Vetulonia's library is put on hold in order to build a quick Missionary to send to our new city
    - Edo builds a lighthouse then starts on a workboat for our new city
    - Thebes receives a massive production boost when a forest is cleared to make way for a farm, our Sistine Chapel is coming along nicely

Here ends FeMme's turn in power. She gladly passes the torch to an eager hand who has been waiting in the wing...

I decided it was too much work to take Kyoto and now we have destroyed Satsuma we could even sue for peace but I will leave this up to the next player. (P.S. I think our people are getting war weary and Tokugawa may offer us a tech in exchange for a peace agreement)

Here are a few screen shots for anyone who is interested.

920AD Big trouble in Little Tokyo!

The borders decreased in 820AD but every turn we get 1% more Egyptians so we could still hold onto it. I didn't see any point chaning the build queue because we only have 1 hammer at the moment.

920AD Our new city site (shown in yellow), our axe fortified on city ruins (shown in red) and the pesky Greek galley (shown in light blue).

Settler is ready to build city next turn and already has 1 axeman with him.

Maybe Smellycowsquid? Also, phlucas hasn't played for some time now. I won't be the "eager hand waiting in the wing" because I can't play for the next two weeks, but I'll keep watching. (Even without access to the game, FeMme's detailed report and well-chosen screenshots make it easy to follow. Thanks!)

Some thoughts about Little Tokyo: Having captured it, I don't think we can loose the city itself, but we need to get at least the flood plains in the east and the forests in the north quickly under control to sustain it properly. One option is to take Kyoto as well, but that would drag out the war. Another is to use a Great Artist. We are already accumulating points in Tokyo itself, but - if we make peace - we could also try to get the free one from researching Music first.

I was surprised to see Caesar so low in the wealth ranking after the Romans topped the GNP graph during my last reign ... but then that was 200 years ago. Is there any reliable information about the statistics reflected in the wealth ranking?

By the way, this being my first succession game, I have to add that I really enjoy this way of playing Civ. I've even started a Civ1 succession game with my Dad (who learned to play Civ1 in 1999 and still says it's the only computer game he'll ever need).

I will play in the evening, during Saudi Arabia vs. Ukraine.

Quick look: The cultural situation in Tokyo looks bad, but I do not see us taking Kyoto in the near future. I think I will temporarily make peace, quickly research Literature and start building the Great Library and the Heroic Epic, and then direct research to the lower branch of the tree.

    Before start:
    * Rearranged workers a bit, so that more cottages are worked.
    * Made peace with Tokugawa for Calendar and 50 gold.
    * Started researching Literature.
    * Returned attack force fortifies at the border.

    940:
    * Heliopolis builds a library, starts a market.
    * Tokyo gets to the next culture level.
    * Alexandria is built at the place designated by FeMme, starts on a granary.
    * With the newly aquired knowledge, several plantations are started. Also, a road shortcut between Thebes and Vetulonia is started (I am a bit paranoid in this regard.).

Currently, we are at -17 gold at 70% science; units cost 4, cities 27, and civics 28. This should be addressed.

    960: Nothing happens.

    980:
    * Literature is researched. I start on Metal Casting.
    * Edo finishes a workboat, starts on a courthouse.

    1000:
    * Memphis finishes a granary, starts the Great Library.
    * Elephantine finished a granary, starts a harbor.
    * Tokyo finishes walls, starts a courthouse.
    * Vetulonia finishes a missionary, restarts a library (in queue).

    1010:
    * Osaka finishes a granary, starts a courthouse.
    * Workers start on an eastern route along the mountains between Vetulonia and Tokyo.

    1020:
    * The borders of Alexandria expand. Alexandria has exactly 2 hammers in its radius; whipping might be a good strategy.
    * In any case, slavery saves us 3 gold per turn, so I switch.

    1030:
    * Vetulonia finishes a library, starts a temple.
    * Confucianism is spread to Alexandria.

    1040:
    * Metal Casting is researched. Research on Music starts; judging from Alexander's, Julius' and Tokugawa's technologies, we should be able to get the Great Artist and drop him in Tokyo (or maybe use him for a later Golden Age); I did not find a "somebody has researched Music" message in the logs.
    * Julius has discovered Feudalism, but is not willing to trade.
    * Tokyo gets another farm to support more incense desert fields.

1050: Thebes finishes the Sistine Chapel, starts a forge.

1060: Vetulonia finishes a temple, starts a harbor.

And that's it. Not much spectacular happenings, but a little bit of consolidation. With the markets and courthouses in place, our economy should stabilise in the near future; We are currently at -9 at 70%.

    Next key decisions:
    * Where to build National Epic?
    * Use Music's Great Artist in Tokyo or spare him?
    * Build more missionaries and send them to Alexander?

Ah, a new age of peace and prosperity for Egypt!

    Short comments:
    - I'd definitely use Music's Great Artist (if we get him) in Tokyo.
    - If the culture push gives Tokyo enough flood plains to work with, I'd recommend to put the National Epic there (maybe use pop-rushing). With a huge surplus of food from Tokyo's farmed flood plains we could switch to Caste System again, create lots of specialists and develop Tokyo into a Great Person factory.
    - Coverting the Greeks is certainly important, but with so much else to do, maybe we can rely on Caesar to do the job. Do they have open borders?

In the medium term, we should get a caravel out. I'm eager to see what the rest of the world is up to.

The people of Egypt would certainly enjoy a second reign of Zeace (who started the war that made Egypt the Great Power it is).

It may also be worth mentioning that we have reached a phase of consolidation which is a particularly good opportunity for new players to jump in.

    here we go!

    Before turn start:
1060 BC Started National Epic on Velutonia, aiming for another great artiste on the future. it had (98/300 100% great Artist)
Traded Icense with Julius Caesar for 4 Gold. we started our public accounts wiht -5 at 70% science

    1070 AD
-Peace treaty with Tokugawa has come to an end. We may restart banging the japs heads
-Elephatine Finished harbor, and started market
    - Upgraded warrior at thebes for an axeman
-Started to create a winery near Heliopolis

    1080 AD
    Nothin interesting happened

    1090 AD
    - Haliopolis finished market and started War charriot
    - EDo finish courthouse and start archer (i thought the borders cities could use a little more protection)
    - Started Archer on tokyo

    1100 AD
    - Discovered Music (sweet great artist), started on machinery, aiming for optics(the mills coud give a good boost on some cities)
    - Great Artist heading for Tokyo

    1110 AD
    - Thebes finish Forge, started Confucian Missionary (sonding him to Alexander)
    - Heliopolis Finish war charriot and started forge
0 Sent a worker to get our secon iron mine

    1120 AD
    - Edo finished archer and started War Charriot
    - Osaka finished courthouse and started harbor
    - Great Artist Pumped up tokyo culture

we now have a view over Kyoto and we cas see the big army Toku left on his capital (see screenshot)

    1130 AD
    - Thebes finished the confucian missionary and started a galley (the old one was too far away)

    1140 AD
    - Edo finished War charriot ad started forge
    - Confucionism spread to arpinum. its a Roman city, already on another continent... they are already expanding

    1150 AD
    - National Epic built on Volutoria. Started a catapult
    - Alexander started a golden age
    - Discovered another jap town, just north of kyoto. size 3, poorly defended

Maybe we could fill 2 galleys with troops and raze that city, and then attack Kyoto from two fronts... just a thought

    1160 AD
Thebes finished galley, and the missionary is now off to Greece

    -------
    Final impressions:
1 turn to dicover Machinery. the crosbows can give a big help agains tthe troops onkyoto
Our troops on the borders: 13
    Troops on kyoto: 11
Think we shoulb build a few more troops and then finish Tokugawa off

Our final Balance: +2 at 70%
Great Libreary its only 4 turns to go.

now i retire from my government and awaits for the next governor
