I was preparing to send some probes for germanos when I accidentaly typed the wrong number and lo and behold there was a totally uninhabited system before my eyes. So how do you go about finding if there are any planets left in your universe? i assume when you do a galaxy 'scan' and you see the list of names - the spaces left unnamed are available to be colonised?(if so i have about 4-5 available slots i could fill)
And what are the steps you need to reach the point of being able to colonise(that anyone has worked out so far?).
Edit: And I'm a ways off from being able to colonize. Like I said earlier, I want to focus on my defense and building up my industry (I include research in that) so I can get to the point where I can colonize every planet in an unihabited system in one or two moves (there's a limit on how many fleets you can send at one time; I've just learned I'm limited to 4 at my current tech level... Computer tech I think).

For the record, I've established my 1st colony in Uni3. weren't nothing special just another planet to build stuff on.
It would be wise to build it far from home instead of in your home system. Your planets defenses will not help it and soon both planets will be competing for places to raid that are close by.
however, having it close by will enable you to transport resources between the two.

I'll probably start building my first space-based infrastructure sometime tomorrow... Then again, doing some research beforehand and fortifying my planet somewhat is also tempting.

Well germanos, I recalled my cargo, and have noticed that one of the (i) planets in my very own system has tonnes of resources! I'm just waiting for my third probe to be built so I can send them all to discover what defences (if any) are to be faced.
Oh, it seems I need level 3 espionage rather than 3 probes.
If anyone's got a spare probe, and level 3 espionage, then 2:267:9 looks especially tasty! Please post report here.
