What plugins do you guys recommend?
If it was the GOTY edition, then yes it comes with the expansions.
I actually bought the original game, and then a couple of months ago bught the GOTY edition. you could say I paid for the same (orginal) game twice. But the GOTY was at a decent price. Cheaper than paying for each expansion separately.
I don't have any recommendations for plugins. I prefer to play the game as it was designed and meant to be played (with patches of course).
If you install the Tribunal expansion, you will find some guys attacking you even when you are a fairly low level. So if you want, you can hold off in installing that. I feel it pushes you into the expansion areas too quickly. It's good to be at least level 20 before going to Tribunal. And level 30 just to be safe. If you aren't very good then you may want to be level 40.

Plugins get Giants, Wilderness, Assassin's Armory, Real Signposts, Marksman, Morrowind Comes Alive, Book Rotate, Weapon Compilation Mod, Cloak and Dagger

I recommend not getting any plugins until you've played the game a decent bit. Although a few add nicely to the scenery, most are either giving you cool weapons/armor which often are better than you ought to get, or just some MORE quests, which you can always add in later if you want, but there are a lot of quests already. It's hard to really know what to add until you're personally familiar with the game.![]()

I was born under the Shadow. How do I use the invisibility power?

You messed up. Restart using Atronach.

invisibility can be used easily. And it's pretty good for a thief character. just engage it and the hit sneak mode and steal that one item you must have.
assuming you have the PC version. right click to bring up the character/magi menus. A menu on the right sides lists all the maigc spells and power you have. Left click on invisibility. and then right click to exit this screen. hit R to ready magic (it readies powers as well), then left click to use it.
That really sounds complicated doesn't it. The interface isn't as bad as it sounds. A better way is to use hotkeys. Esp for something like invisibility which you may use alot (though you only get it once per day). I think F1 brings up the hotkey menu. I usually assign weapons to number 1 and 2. And then maybe some spells in 3 to 9.
important thing to remember is to have the power selected, then hit R to ready magic (you will see your hands move up with no weapons in them). And I'm sure you know F readies your weapon. but as I said, hotkeys are much easier.
I may as well mention sneaking, as that is probably what you want invisibility for. It took me a while to figure sneaking out, and I still might know everything about it. It's a hard skill to build up. I usually just train it. but I'm pretty sure being invisibile makes sneaking easier.
So as I was saying above. You could use your invisibility power, then hit the ctrl button to enter sneak mode. It should work. Then hold it down, move to whatever you must steal, and then pick up the item you want to steal. I believe actions like this dispel the invisibility, but it's good for when you only need to steal one thing.
So I'm guaranteed the ability to steal any one object that I want?
Do I need to sneak if I'm invisible?
This game needs an autosave, or some sort of warning featurehow am I supposed to know merely touching the pestle thingy would get everyone after me?

Its called stealing for a reason.![]()
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
I thought I was allowed to use it, since I was in the (Mage's) Guild.
in my experience yes. I tried just using my invisible power (I have the same sign as you it looks like) and stealing something, I always get caught. But if I do invisible, then sneak (which should nearly always work if you are invisible) the sneak will work (there's a little icon in the bottom corner of the screen that comes on when you are successfully sneaking. this icon is important, if it flashes off the split second before you steal something, you will get caught (assuming anyone is around to catch you- line of sight)Originally posted by Kuciwalker

there are quicksaves. I use them all the time. F5 and F9 I believe. I pretty much set all my games for F5 and F9 if I can (many games allow you to configure hotkeys etc).
I also have autosave turned on before rest. This is very useful. I suggest you have autosave turned on before rest. This way if something happens when you are sleeping (if you have Tribunal installed) and something goes wrong, you won't have to go back far at all. Just try to rest again.
even if you belong to a guild, you still can't just go steal all their stuff. though there is a chest in the mages guild with equipment that is free for the taking. I think it's marked in the description of the chest somewhere.Originally posted by Kuciwalker

I'm level 4, I think, in the Mage's Guild and level 2 in House Hlaalu, but I'm still level 1? Is killing people the only way to get exp?
Oh and re: the invisibility, I got the Hlaalu quest to steal the alchemist's formulas, and so I tried to do it the usual way - cast the invisibility, hold ctrl, and pick up the papers and take them, but for some reason she catches me. It seems that the invisibility is canceled when I pick up the papers.

you shouldn't be caught if the little icon is showing up when you press ctrl. It's an icon in the lower left corner that shows up when you are sneaking. It is possible heavy armour will make it more difficult to sneak. House Hlaalu is a good house, but more appropiate for theif type characters. Redoran is for more warrior type characters, and Telvanni for mage type characters. If you need to, you may have to find other methods of getting some gold, and then go to a trainer to train your sneak skill. That should ensure you sneak successfully.Originally posted by Kuciwalker

and killing monsters doesn't give experience. In fact, there is no experience in this game. You might want to read the manual.
If you have gold, you can go up in levels without fighting a single creature (using trainers)
Hopefully you have your preferred armour type and your preferred weapon type (and magic type) in major skills. And if you really want to go up in levels fast put acrobatics and atheletics as a major skill. and then run around and jump around everywhere.
So if you have long blade as a major skill (and you are wielding a long blade), and heavy armour as a major skill (and you are actually wearing heavy armour), then go fight some monsters. you'll find you can go up levels fairly fast (at least the first 10 or 20 levels will be fast). Or if blunt weapons is your major skill get a mace or staff.
Your skills go up as you use them. And when your major/minor skills go up 10 points, you go up a level. Miscellaneous skills going up don't cause you to go up levels, but they will increase your attribute multiplier.
The attribute multiplier is complicated, I'm not sure I can explain it properly. But say you raise your long blade up 10 points and level up. When you level up you will get the option of placing 5 points to strength instead of just 1 (which is the lowest). 2 X multipliers are easy, since you only need to raise the skill once. You can also get 3 X multipliers.
they aren't real important. They just cause you to get all your attributes (strenght, willpower, intelligence etc) up to 100 faster.
Thanks.
It can be tough stealing things at lower levels when you have a low sneak skill.
I was part of the thieves guild and I had to steal this thing in Hla Oad. That involves opening a chest. Not something you can do while invisible. I just stole the stuff and ran (even with the guy attacking me). Luckily I didn't have to deal with that particular character the rest of the game. Though there is a spell called: Calm Humanoid which may have worked if I needed to talk to him for some other reason. But the method I just mentioned could be risky if done in front of plot important characters. You don't want to anger them (and definately don't want to kill them).

Here's a cheatish type way to easily improve sneak skill.
Spoiler:
Then again, you could just spend a lot of money and go to the master trainer.

That's actually semi-valid. I shall do that![]()
it's easier just to go to a trainer (and master trainer). Though finding out who the master trainer is could be a cheat. I just went and wrote down the whole list of master trainers.
and what role playing reason would you have to be sneaking behind the same guy for days on end (game time)?
Self-training. Or being a stalker
Training costs money. I am poore![]()

Training is generally considered semi-cheating for most traits. Not that that stopped me from using them the previous time I played, but this time around I am going to attempt to level up completely without training. We'll see how that goes. It can be done with many of the skills, but things like enchanting...

training isnt cheatingi wont go up in level if i dont have three 5x multipliers
there is no such thing as cheating in SP,long as you have fun.why spend all day clicking?it's easier just to go to a trainer (and master trainer). Though finding out who the master trainer is could be a cheat. I just went and wrote down the whole list of master trainers.and i have a list of all trainers everywhere from gamefaqs.didnt know that was cheating
