Post Numbering

Any chance y'all could put in some function that puts numbers on the posts in a thread, ala this Straight Dope example? (The "#93" on the top-right).

That would help in some debates and such.

If you move your mouse over the "link" between "reply with quote" and the exclamation mark at the top of the post you get the post number. Your above post has number 3794029 for example...

To refer exactly to this post you right-click and choose "copy link adress" or something like that. Thus:

I think he wants the within thread post number. It would get a bit tiresome referring to post 35673656337573 each time.

That's exactly the point. Rather than going through the effort of making the link, all one has to say is "As I said in post 93 in this thread, Wal-Mart is but ..."

I can´t see why that would be simpler than linking directly to it. You still have to look up the post number in the thread...

I see no reason for having a number for each post when quoting/linking is much easier than telling someone to look at post 156

From time to time I'm at a forum that only has the numbering feature (it's not even possible to quote!) and it annoys the hell out of me

It's hell to keep track on what people are talking about, so basicly if you want to know what's going on you need to have two windows open for the same thread: One for main reading (so you don't forget to which post you got to) and one to search for the posts people are responding to
