According to Age of Mythology, the most estimed source for the atlantian civ, the atlantians used helepoleis and catapults

here's a bunch of Lord of the Rings units i've got for a scenario i started a while back, but only recently got motivated to actually finish.

contained herein, Gondor cavalry, Saruman, trebuchet, Grond the battering ram, Rohan horseman, Rohirrim, Nazgul, Sauron the eye, light Haradrim, heavy Haradrim, Corsair raider, oliphant, Corsair ship, and Orthanc (which is actually a city in the scenario, but i thought it looked ok, so i put it in here).

most of these are modified from somebody else's units (i believe all by Favfly), that i've made various major or minor changes to. Orthanc and Sauron the eye are made from scratch.

i'd also like to ask, if somebody with talent wouldn't mind redoing the eye, 'cause i think it still looks kinda crappy.

and if anybody has a cool looking Uruk-hai, could you hook me up, and post it here? i've made several attempts at it, but i'm still not terribly good at this unit making stuff.

Well Varwnos, if Age of Mythology is correct then the Atlanteans seige weaponry would have looked a little something like this. An Atlantean Catapult and Helepoleis.

Does anyone have any idea's what they're ships may have looked like? Whats Age of Mythology's take on the naval power of Atlantis?

isn't a heliopolis like a ballista? or have i just been playing too much Age of Empires?

anyhow, those look great, as do the others. best siege tower i've ever seen, by far.

Those siege engines have nothing to do with me so remove my sig. The right-hand one is by BeBro.

I've removed the units Gareth, I meant no offence . I wonder if you've had a change to read the request I sent to you via PM the other day?

No need to remove the pics - I was asking that you remove my signature from them as they weren't drawn by me. As I said, the right-hand one was by BeBro.

Well glad to know no offence was taken Gareth, I'd hate to offend you with that request of mine being considered .

Now Cousarmy0001 I haven't palyed AOM but from what I was able to read the helepoleis was a tall seige engine. However if the Atlanteans used the ballista like helepoleis in AOM then I'll make one of those up and release all the three in the same unit file.

don't go off of me, i'm not an expert on siege artillery from that period. i know a little more about medieval stuff, but that i'm more limited on.

First of all ofcourse i was joking about aom being an estimed source

the helepolis (helepoleis is plural) was a tall tower, full of siege weapons, some of whioch were also balistas. It also had catapults and rams. The biggest helepolis of antiquity needed nearly 3000 men to move it around, and was something like the german huge siege guns of ww1, not very usable but made an impression

Great captures. Ever considered putting them all into a compilation of them like you did with the Star Trek ones?

The famous one was the Helepolis used to besiege Rhodes by Demetrius Poliorcetes, son of the Diodochus Antigonus. It is described as being covered in iron plates and stood over 100ft tall.

Varwnos, you will know - didn't Demetrius coin the phrase Helepolis to describe his oversized siege engine? I drew this rather poor attempt to replace a unit in Prometeus' Antigonus scenario. It pales besides BeBro's masterpiece posted by Sarsstock

Well Gareth you sure earned that compliment once again. Anyways, once again here is the Atlantean Seige Unitset, though this time the seige engine warrants the "GB" signature. I based the Atlantean helepolis on your recently posted seige engine Gareth because I thought it was more isometric, not taking anything away from BeBro's awsome unit.

Also featured is a mod of the original Civ II catapult as well as a battering ram by BeBro himself.

    Very nice units...

Helepolis means "taker of cities" i think. The Ele part is rather obscure in modern greek. I am not aware if Demetrios first used that word

indeed. I don't know where 'hele' comes from, but it is not the same as Helio[s], which is the sun.

Sorry about the delay; it's my crumby Internet plan.

Those are spectacular Atlantean units, Mr. Sarsstock! I'll add them to my unit graphics file right away!

And, siege weapons! I'd completely forgotten about those. Must add them somewhere.

    And the Medusa

i should again state that because i havent yet tried to make arms and legs i am using already made ones from other people, so the griffon has limbs edited from fairline's units, and th emedusa from curtsibling's dr.who girl (can you see that it was based from that? )

    Ty

btw my nick is varwnos, and it is the greekified word for baron. If you are carefull you will see that the b is replaced with v because the greek beta makes a v sound, and o is replaced with an omega (in this case a w, which looks close to an omega). -os is the ussual ending for masculine nouns in greek.

i'm not actually after a Peter Griffin unit, i was just making a [bad] joke about the griffin.

one could potentially make a Petoria vs USA scenario or a scenario about that episode where Peter and his neighbors all end up fighting each other over the trophy they won for having the best parade float.

those would require units representing most, if not all, of the rest of the cast, though.

or maybe one of Peter vs the Giant Chicken...
