As I said in the last email, you will have to log in, enter your email information, and exit successfully before the game will wait for you on your turn and send an email notification to you. Until we figure out what is going wrong in this game, there is no point in starting the regular game.

When you exit the PitBoss game, what GUI option do/don't you use?

If we are having too many problems with Pitboss then I don't mind playing by email. I know that it gives you more responsibility because you have to nudge slow players but, as we've seen in this test game, we're all taking our turns at a regular rate.

Actually, the turns in the test game have been very irregular (not that it matters as this is only to make sure the mechanisms work), and it is only the PitBoss program that makes the game progress regularly. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the program itself, as it works fine for everyone but tommynt. I suspect it would be easily cleared up if he responds to my direct questions on it at some point. Perhaps snoopy could find the time to contact him on IRC and talk him through the log in/out process?

I thought everyone was playing their turns. I missed my turn yesterday on purpose to see if the notifications would still come. They did.

UnO and snoopy have only connected once each for the last six times you took your turn. Making it seem like everyone is playing is how PitBoss earns his living.

Particularly, how are you exiting the game? Are you exiting via close window, or retire, or exit to main menu?

Haven't been worried about it as it's a test game. I will log in for the 'real thing'.

I didn't mean to criticize you, just pointing out why PitBoss is so cool.

We should be able to start the real thing almost immediately after (if) tommy takes the time to figure out his connection issue...

I have no connection problem - i t s just never my turn when i log in - oh ya i get no email notification that it s my turn - should i get?

The AI is in your slot according to the program. It will play your turn for you as soon as Masuro is done with his. We need to figure out why the AI takes over after you have logged in, because it is not supposed to and no one else is having this problem.

What steps do you take to exit the game after you have logged in?

I know from my mp that i should not use retire to exit game or ai ll take over - i might have done it on mistake some time ago - i dont know for 100% sure (even if i dont think so) i use german language and retire is there just exit not retire but i know i should not click there

I read this pitboss message - oh well imo if we start real game and i allways play my turns there should be np

I could change things like buildorder and tech btw but not move as it s never my turn

Whatever you did this time worked- you are now listed as "disconnected" instead of "AI". After Masuro moves next time, you will have 12 hours to move. You should receive an email this time and if so, we will be ready to start (you did enter your email address, right?).

If everyone can play their turn this time, it will speed this up...

I've taken my turn and I fixed my name in the game.
I'm glad the tournament will be 24 hours because 12 is very difficult. If I get the turn in the middle of the night I have to play in the morning (busy time) or miss it.
I'm glad we're all in the game now.

i choose exit to main menu to exit game

game speed is normal - shouldnt it be fast to speed up things?

Tommy, this is a PBEM and not a MP game. "Fast" is irrelevant, if you mean 'turn speed'. "Quick", ie fewer hammers required etc., is not something we'd use in a PBEM (at least not in Iron Civver). Though I had some fun 'quick' Civ3 games

Having 24 hours to do the turn is very nice.
I've played the first turn. I'm already 38 points ahead so the rest of you may as well just press Alt-Q now and let me win.

Was your first city already settled? It looks like you waited more than 24 hours after Masuro played and posted, and the AI played your turn for you...?

There is now 18:40 left on your second turn- did you receive the email notification?

The game went down some time today- I've just restored it from the last autosave. It is now Masuro's turn. I hope Cerberus is watching this forum if Mas is gone already...

I will address the other problem with the game as soon as I find a spare hour...
