Yeah, also it's very important to get the map right, in terms of numerous balance factors, playability, variation etc... especially for a game like this which is intended to be tighter and denser.

Dominae has decided/agreed to make the map! Which is great as we can assume it's going to be a really good map and spot on in terms of balance. Also after posting in this thread he knows what is needed and is trusted by everyone.

All that is needed is to formalize the specifications.

I believe we agreed to vote in polls after teams are decided, with each team getting one vote. I would remind you that until I change my vote, between 1.5 and 3.5 (more than half) votes (out of six) are for AP.

After all, it's not about winning the popularity contest, but winning the electoral college ...

Anywho, I believe a compromise will end up being the way to go; a larger starter pack will overall lend to a faster game, without the detriments some people find in AP.

I also strongly feel that without AP we HAVE to have 60% water, and only 60% water (or else a larger map). Demo Games are more interesting with decent sized armies on the field, and a 80% water small pangea will not allow enough cities for the sort of action we expect. A large starter pack allows a larger pangea to be settled without too slow of contact (3 settlers, or more, for example). I don't want to play a game where I can only build five or six cities... that's starcraft, not civ. (Although the same could be said of AP i suppose ... )

Dominae, are you actually making the map or is OPD pulling our leg? If so, thanks, and I'll move you to the Admin Team shortly! I definitely think a random-feel map is a good way to go, with different teams having different challenges to overcome (desert, marsh, jungle, etc.) ... without a Ag civ it shouldn't be too difficult to balance

Wasn't meaning to be a pain, but we have some experience to go on. And to be honest, I really like the way the start and arrangements for this game are shaping up. Should make for a better game.

Okay, edits made (including Dominae to Team Admin).

I would like to see a sixth team formed; with Conmcb still apparently away, we need that team formed soon so we can decide on whatnot.

Folks who haven't chosen civs yet, do so now please. I'm going to start threads for voting on specific issues so we can do so. MarkG is going to give us forums I believe, I have to PM him with the info (which I need to GET first!) on teams and so on, but I think it will take until we actually get the teams formed to get such things...

In voting, each team gets one vote, and the player listed first on the first post in this thread (generally the player I asked to form a team and/or the player who told me he/she was forming a team) gets to make that vote (hopefully a democratically decided on thing!). Discussion of course is allowed, but I ask that you do most of the discussing internally in the next 48 hours.

Dominae I would suggest that you consider 48-72 hours as the length we expect to take to vote, so we probably can't make anything mapwise before the weekend is nearly over ... if that's a problem (ie you prefer to work during the weekend) I'm fine waiting a full week to start if necessary (unless voting is faster than I guess it to be)...
