This game hits a strand that some will dread
Because it involves the cycle of life and death...
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

    Everybody is a critic

A more practical pointer, this game was released late 80's. Around the time the 16 bit era was starting.

Seems my rhyming is a bit disjoint
So I'll get quicker to the point:

"At first you ate... and then you mate"
It all has to do with duplicate!

And should you get the proper mix
    You might improve your helix...
The name itself is rather short
You'll have to take my word

    Now, what game am I?
