If you have a spot open, might as well save grace. She's not all that useful in combat. She has a few decent spells though.

    ?

Anyway, if you have low WIS/INT you can take Vhalior but do not talk to him much until you raise them, since he'll remember who you are, and with low WIS/INT you can't explain to him you're already punished. I would take Vhalior for FFG, but be careful, he can mess up a certain quest (actually not mess it up, but cause your alignment to slide towards chaotic - if you want lawful one - just follow him ).

I disliked Vhailor so I kicked his ass. I didn't find out that he might be useful in your party until after I finished. From what I here he is a pain in the ass, good fighter but a pain in the ass.

diss - i dont have a spot open if i take Vhailor - ive also got Annah, Daakon, Nordstrom - oops, Nordrom, and Morte (who I finally DID figure out how to rescue). So its either FFG or Vhailor.

Illum - Ive got pretty high wisdom and intel now - wis is 20 before adjustments for tattoos and stuff(23 after), intel is 18.

    definately take Vhailor then.

You can use healing charms and such to make up for the lack of a priest. She isn't that important. In fact, charms can probably cover most of her priest spells anyways.

    Spoiler:
You can get all his stuff ! - you can discover it through dialogue options. He is bound to help your quest in every way! Take all his items - some of them, namely parasites are very useful.

Im now up to Curst Gone.

    Spoiler:
the fiend is VERY hard. Im gonna have to reload - i presume the "balance in all things spell" will be helpful here?

Fiend from Moridor's box? Hint: fight with him is the hardest in whole game (strange, but true, you get to prepare more for others). I hit him with everything I can - you get a great item afterwards. Use Annah too for her thievish skills. Balance in all things is most efficient against group of opponents IIRC, but you can try.

he's the one you get the evil weapon from right? I never used the weapon, but I did the fight.

He's pretty hard. I thought I did have a little bit to prepare. But I think you have to initiate a conversation to start the fight. I think it took me two tries. The first time I did it with no buffs from charms and such. The second time I used a lot of buffs and charms.

    Oy.

I tried to be merciful to Trias, then Vhailor does his thing.

Which seems to have reduced my aligment to true neutral My fancy eyeball no longer works

I got the enchanted blade from coaxmetal. No one in the party can use it however.

Ive sold all the junk. Ive bought a couple of more tattoos, and some charms. Im almost up to 8 or 9 healing charms for each party member, other than TNO. Ive still got wads of cash left.

Im thinking of heading down to undersigil for more XP's. I should at least be able to upgrade Vhailor one more time, and maybe TNO, whos level 14 mage.

Vhailors lack of mercy wont affect things again, will it?

    it might

i got him so near the end of the game, he wasn't a big factor for me.

you should be pretty close. You should be plenty strong enough to finish the game now if you want. I don't think I was even 14 when I finished.

If vhailors dead, but still in my party, then he cant mess up a dialog right? but i can still revive him when needed right? That gives me some ideas for undersigil

You are very near the game. Check Coaxmetal for new weapons. Near the end he will request Modron's Box for Entropic Blade. If you accept your alignment will go far to chaotic. Check tattoo shop - there should be some really powerful spells now. Take negative material plane token (or whatever that thing you got from transparent planewalkre near the begining) and bronze sphere (!!!!!!) for sure. Blade of the Immortal is useful too, if you wish to see all the endings. Also, interesting idea for Vhalior , but he can't mess up much things now (infact he can get an insane boost to his stats in the final fight). Solve anything you want, after going thorugh portal you will find some fighting, a lot of story and explanations and final confrontation. Good luck! Ask if you have any more questions.

I'm in the mood to play this again. I think after I'm done with my current game I'll load it up on my hard drive again.

And this time play the evil way.

    Spoiler:
i think ive done all the cannons, and just have to get to the room where the portal should be

well - ive finally finished the game.

    Spoiler:
I chose to merge with TTO at the end

I will discuss overall reflections in a seperate thread

a few final comments though wrt the ending.

    1. Nice cutscenes, and
    Spoiler:
    revival of NPC's was nice

    2.
    Spoiler:
TTO as a green frame? Cheesey, I think

    3.
    Spoiler:
Mortality as transcendant? Ironic play on notion of immortality as transcendance, or are they seriously philosophizing here?

    4.
    Spoiler:
took me a minute to realize that picking up a weapon when dead and on the lower plane made sense, since thats what happens to dead people -OTOH how does it connect to "what changes the nature of a man"

    5. all in all, i found the ending weak. Same sensation i had at end of BG, you mean all THAT was leading up to just THIS? Poor coda, if you will. Though I dont have many games to compare it to, since i mainly play strategy games. Maybe its the whole genre, of games as stories, vs conventional fiction, movies, etc. Im not sure.

I thought it was a pretty good ending. But in many games, it is the journey that is the more rewarding, not the ending.

I guess part of it is how do you define the ending? If you take the entire fortress of regrets as a unit, yeah, it does wrap thing up reasonably well. But i spent a lot of time on the fight in the first part of the fortress, so its hard to think of the splitting of the party, and the first talk with Deionarra at the entrance, as parts of the end. I guess thats a similar problem to BG1 - having a big fight toward the end makes limits the part that feels like "the end" to whatever happens after that fight. In a book or movie a fight or conflict near the end doesnt cause me to refight the fight half a dozen times.

So finally you've come to the end?

    This game rocks for sure.
