2 days? hrm, my format + reinstall of everything took 2 hours
I received this warning from Obstructor:
Geo, I believe that I have a trojan on my computer, and that someone is playing with me. Please check your comp for viruses, as my saves might be infected. Also, if you received any strange comm form me it may not be me. I will be absent for next two days since I am gonna format disk and reinstall everything.

Lucky! I've done that before... it took the majority of the night.. that is, without the reinstalling... just the erasing and reinstall of system software..
Well, scanned the partition I use for SMAC(X) for virusses from another one, and nothing came up. It's a one-way connected partition, so nothing should be able to come there.
You do not have to backup 10 Gb of data. And I can afford only 3-4 hours daily for such tasks. :POriginally posted by Method

Since last week Saturday 24 April my computer was having lots of troubles with ads and unclosable pop-ups etc. My brother (another one) installed some anti-virus software and it appeared there were 19 viruses on the computer...
Any damage? On you, I mean. Were those your imported virusses or another ones?
Its easier than formatting the HD, yeah?

Careful - I had no viruses, but my desktop may still have some software installed in a hidden place that auto-disconnected my modem and dialle their pay numbers. THAT was nasty - a $300NZ and a $400NZ bill in successive months....
I would have formatted my computer after the first months bill...
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
That's a big advantage of DSL or cable modem - no dialling involved. I now don't have a phone line even connected to my rig (cable modem)
