I love to play the Gaians and make a Conquest Victory. To take my Very Green troops into battle against the likes of the Caretakers, Usurpers, and Spartans, and to march the remnants of these Factions into subserviance just makes my day....

Transcendence
Alien Invasion

So, what is your basic objective while playing SMAC/X? Playing for Transcendent, Conquest, Economic, Alien Invasion or Diplomatic Victory?
I just finished a game with economic victory (drones), but I usually go for Transcendence, these two fits my playstile better. I never play Conquest or Alien Invasion (mainly because I dont like to play with the Aliens)![]()

Transcendance is nice, but if I can ever do it, economic is _really_ satisfying. Just the fact that you had that much money.....
That being said, i've only won by economic victory once, and it was on specialist level. By the point that you're able to put it into action, you could _probably_ just win diplomatically, and without the 20-turn wait.
Alien victory is good - the final movie when the battlefleet arrives is quite something
transcendence.
But the game I played as the believers I did conquest. I didn't feel like waiting around all the way to transcendence.
looks like I'll be playing an alien faction next. I have yet to do that.Originally posted by Googlie

The usurpers look quite powerful, almost too powerful.

Hmmm, can't say that I've ever seen this movie. I may just give Guardian H'mneee a run in my next SP. Wonder how she'll do with my modified alphax.txt....![]()

I usually prefer the Transcendence, but in this last game I was playing against an angry Aki-Zeta with +2 RESEARCH agains my -2 RESEARCH, so she was discovering all the technologies and I was behind her, so I started increasing my energy reserves and finally bought everything she and everyone else build for 83000 credits. In the end the malcontents won and I felt envy in Morgan´s eyes

I like Transcendence, if only because I choose when the game ends and can be a hardcore builder to my hearts content. Sure, I could conquer the last city I let the AI keep, but by that stage a Transcend victory is much more fulfilling than being overly aggressive.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
I guess in single player I "prefer" diplomatic victory since thats the way I end almost all these games. I usually can't be bothered to finish off my conquest of the AI so once I am 3 times as big as everyone else combined.
If playing out obviously won games wasn't so tedious I would likely transcend more often.
In multiplayer, ANY victory is a good victory. The most frequent method is capitulation whne one player has established dominance so I guess thats a diplomatic victory as well. I have only transcended once in a multiplayer game for a co-op victory with another player. It was actually a game where all 4 human players survived and never fought a single battle ( the two alliances were far apart-- we established a good tech lead and a good buffer zone of conquered AI bases . .. the other alliance could never attack anything important with any real chance of succeeding and we decided to transcend instead of getting into a slugfest)

I most always play Gaians. I ususaly win by Transendance, But play to win by Conquest.
It just depends on how that particular game is going.

I like Diplomatic Victory.
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

Conquest. Sure, I don't get really high percentage wins, but the thrill of having Planet's (almost) entire human population under my command really makes me feel warm inside.

I don't think I have ever done economic.
How do you prevent those energy reserve crashes? that is really annoying. I don't think I've ever gotten over 40,000 energy credits accumulated.
You can turn off random events, but this is for weaklings.

The problem with those "random" events is that they are not so random. Some have posted the scripts the game uses to determine which events happen, and if you are doing well and are ahead of your opponents the bad things happen to you. It feels like being punished for being successful...not my idea of a good time.Originally posted by obstructor

oh, and I prefer Transcend, but I most often do Diplomatic because end a game I am becoming bored with (most of them).

It works the same in any country." -- Hermann Goering
just finished with the progenitor victory. Still not as satisfying as a transcendence victory.
transcendence is just so cool.
but I have a question about the plot. even without the subspace communicator thingy- wouldn't the aliens eventually come back to figure out what happened to the ships the sent out? And if a human faction achieved transcendence, but the aliens came back and for some reason wiped out all the life on Planet, transcendence wouldn't be much of a victory now would it. I'm not sure I like that part of the plot. the alien threat will continue to loom for the humans, no matter what.

I think that the Aliens are from another dimension (the opening from Alien Crossfire) so they need the Subspace Generator to show to their race "where" they are, otherwise their race dont know how to befing the search? So the Subspace opens a new portal, just like that we see in that video from the beginning of the game?I´m I´m not sure, just wondering here
Transcendence because I'm pacific.

Well, the SMAX factions intro on the firaxis site placed the progenitors somewhere in the direction of the 'big dipper' constellation. Ursae Majoris for the space-fans around.Originally posted by Cosmic

For my factions [Gaians, Morgon, University, or Pirates], its always via transcendence or conquest. As another put it, play by conquest, win by transcendence!![]()
