  • Races in MOO3

    Hey guys,

I just bought and tried MOO2 and so far, I've noticed a tremendous difference between MOO2 and MOO3.

I just have one question about this regarding MOO3. I'm sure this might have been asked before....

Why were the Elerians, Darloks, Bulthrai, Alkari, and Gnolams "eliminated" for MOO3? Why are they not playable races? Why just magnate civilizations?

I've been really enjoying playing as and playing aganist these races in MOO2, and it truly makes me wonder why it was decided not to include them as empires in MOO3.

Stormhound, any idea why that decision was made? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I got MOO2 from Amazon like you suggested, Stormhound and it's a blast to play! Thanks again!

They were eliminated since they were all 'humanoid'. The designers, apparently, wanted the races to be more than humans-with-funny-colored-skin-and-big-ears. Remaining races were divided into larger categories, with similar sub-races (for instance, Psilons, Humans, and Evon are "humanoid") being grouped. Apparently, they decided that the other humanoid races weren't that different and they didn't make the cut.

They are there, as a cameo, as minor (magnate) races.

Let's be slightly more specific, here.

They were eliminated because the art director (Rantz Hosely) thought they were cheesy and didn't want HWFCSABE as Hydro notes. He got his way; some of us thought making more non-humanoid races was a good idea, and some were opposed, but when all was said and done he got what he wanted (well, most of what he wanted...he'd have been happier with NO humanoid races, including humans, whatsoever!). My own personal opinion, FWIW, was that I wasn't emotionally attached to any of the races, and that anything that would make them more interesting and different was worth a try. Many of the magnate civs are other races that didn't make the final cut (which would require race art), but were kept in for more variety in settling worlds.

      C'est la vie.
If I'd known then what I know now, I'd never have done all the stuff that led me to what I know now...

Ahhh, like the Brys Ehts and the "fungual race", Stormhound?

In my opinion, the game would be more varied if there was an option to select classical MOO races.

For example, as you said the HWFCSABE... There could be a sub-category within the Humanoids.

        It would be like this:

"True Humanoids" = Humans, Psilons, Elerians
"Animal Humanoids" = Msshran, Alkari, Bulrathi
        "Mythical Humanoids" = Evon, Darloks

Again, thats just my opinion. At any rate, I appreciate your feedback, Stormhound and Hydro.
