I cannot make a fair comparison, as I've only had the pleasure of the enjoying Civ II on the Macintosh platform. Personally, I still think the graphics hold up fine even today, years after it's release.

First off, I want to say that when it comes to civ 1, NO QUESTION - the mac version was MUCH better graphically. I don't even understand how dos / win3.1 users were able to stand it! My question is this: have you people also noticed an increased graphical splendour in the macintosh version of civ 2? Oh sure, the difference is less than in civ 1, but generally I find the colors to be brighter, the edges crisper, and the animations and videos (council and wonder movies) to be smoother. What are your experiences?
Also, does anyone remember how amazing Civ 2 looked when it came out?? I was floored...When that viking 3D animated hottie first popped out of the screen... wow!

The only difference I've noticed are the wonder/advisor movies.
Anything else than this has to be the monitors or something as the units, etc are identic in their game files on the pc and mac versions...
No Fighting here, this is the war room!

It seems better to me. I have always been just a pc player up until a month ago. At my new job, they are a mac shop, so I got an Ibook of my own. I loaded Civ II for the mac, and have been able to play it side by side to my PC in MP mode. It looks sharper, but I haven't really noticed any other major differences. But I never even bothered loading the movies.
Keep on Civin'

Yeah, I think it is just ever so slightly sharper. I think the swamps look better, and the city name font looks better.
I guess the most striking comparison is in the original civ.
God, how I loved that game!

I agree, though when CivII:ToT came out it took over that place as the prettiest CivII...

As always, will play after work. I wonder if I'll ever be able to turn that the other way...

But Civ II is probably the most playable Civ on either a PC or a Mac![]()

Some would disagree*cough* Civ 3 *cough*

From an MP stand point, it's not even close. Civ II forever![]()

For MP probably Civ 2. But with Conquests I think the Civ 3 MP will be improved a bit. Anyway I don't want to threadjack so I will get back to the subject. Yes, I do believe that the graphics are a bit improved. Not an incredible amount but still an amount.
Edited for spelling mistakes.

I'd like to see a screenshot of the Mac version, if you please.

I don't know one way or another, but here's a screen capture from me starting a new game just for the purpose of getting it up here...

Apparently screenshots are smaller for Mac than Windows, but otherwise, no real difference I can see.

That just has to do with the moniter and computer. I use a 18" TV screen as a moniter, and at the maximum zoom-out, it looks like the standard zoom. Maybe I'll post a screenshot sometime.

OK, so how does one do a screen capture on a Mac? I don't have any graphics-oriented programs, aside from Pictureviewer.

command(open-apple), shift, 3.
In OS X it creates a .pdf, in 7+ it creates a PICT file I think you need to change prior to posting here...

To clarify, btw, I just cropped the image I created because I didn't want the whole dang thing to fill the screen, is it needed?Originally posted by Tuberski

Hey, cool. Hmm. I don't have any conversion programs. Oh, well. When I upgrade and/or ever get the urge to post screen captures, I'll do it then.Originally posted by FlameFlash

If you want to take a pic of a part of the screen use Apple-Shift 4 and you get a crosshair selector. If you press space you get a camera which will automatically take pics of specific windows.
Download the Quickimage plugin and you can crop and scale from the Finder.

quickimage is OS X, though, isn't it?
GK still is on something older, 8.6 wasn't it?
If you want the pictures edited, converted, or something, just warn me in a PM and then e-mail them to me and I'll happily do it for you.

Hey, at least you're to the point that you can use USB devices...
And here I am worried that I'll have to do some heavy hunting for Classic and OS 9 whenever I finally get a new G5 (or by the time I can get a new computer, G6) since I don't know where the install disks are anymore...
Gotta play my Civ! I just need to find Carbonized, unofficial versions of Civ2 and CtP like I did SMAC/SMAX. Or learn how to cargonize myself.
