    In Afghanistan

The Pentagon spent $43 million on a compressed natural gas station in Afghanistan that should have cost about $300,000, according to a special inspector general report released Monday.

“One of the most troubling aspects of this project is that the Department of Defense claims that it is unable to provide an explanation for the high cost of the project or to answer any other questions concerning its planning, implementation, or outcome,” Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) John Sopko wrote in a letter to Defense Secretary Ashton Carter accompanying the report.
    .
The task force ended in March. Because of that, the Pentagon told the special inspector general it no longer had the personnel or documentation to answer why the cost ballooned, according to the report.

What would be interesting to find out is: Who is getting rich here? Is it the contractors or the local Afghani warlords. vs. ?

With that kind of boondoggle, there's basically no limit to where the money might have gone. Probably after some digging we'll find out eighty grand or so went to buying little boys from Thailand for those pedos we've apparently been protecting.

America is bringing freedom and good government to these people. A few minor cost overruns here and there are only to be expected.
There is nothing to see here, it's just a minor glitch as America helps the backwards people of Afghanistan develop the same clean and honest
        government that the USA enjoys.

Instead of dwelling on these minor extra expenses we should be celebrating and praising America for so capably shouldering the white man's burden.

        USA! USA! USA!

What's the equivalent phrase in Slovenia? "Your tax Euro at work?"
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

In Slovenia it used to be the tax Tolar, they regret the switch to Euro as well...

I whistleblew on a contract in Eastern Europe and saved the DoD $6.1 million in overcharges in a single FY. I couldn't quantify the overcharges from previous years.
