What did Kanye do that warrants physical violence?

Not sure I understand the controversy here. The timeline as I understand it is:

        (1) Someone won a Grammy.

        (2) Kanye thought someone else should have won that Grammy.

        (3) Other people disagreed with Kanye.

        Am I missing something?

Kanye just turned black? Okay, now that's interesting.

If he were a black guy threatening to beat up a white guy the reaction would probably be different

Having seen the clip, I think he was just taking the piss and ****ing around with everyone. The expectation is that kanye is going to be up to some manner of douchebaggery and he would be remiss if he didn't deliver.

As always, it is interesting to see what gets people's goat.

Anger at Kanye based on racism? I can't say for sure.

Yep. Anyone who believes he was going up there to say something and then "thought of his wife and kid" and decided not to do it, is being ridiculous.

Of course, he's changed his mind from what he said it was about the day after:
In 2009, Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift as she was trying to accept her award for Female Video Of The Year. This turned out to be a momentous event in the careers of both artists, and to this day, it might be the only thing Kanye has done that your mom knows about. At the […]

On the moment where he joined Beck onstage, Kanye says, “The voices in my head told me to go… What I really wanted to do was joke around with what had happened before, but I didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or the time he’s having to talk… It was kind of a joke, like the Grammys themselves.”

He also had nice words about Beck: “Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game. It’s nothing that I would want to do as a fellow musician, to disrespect him in any way.” And he pointed out that everyone becomes way more famous after he interrupts them. He also walked back his “Beck needs to respect artistry” line, saying that was a poorly chosen phrase and that Beck is obviously an artist.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Kanye's beef is with the Grammy organization, not with Beck.

He can't seem to understand that the awards are voted upon by the membership, not negotiated and scripted. Hilarious that he's now walking back his statements and actions of Sunday night. I note he did not walk back his playing of the race card.

Kanye has always been a self-serving douche and a total narcissist (like justifying his spotlight-grabbing by saying his interruptions make his victims more famous LOL).

Well he's right about that. How many more folks are buying Beck's album due to Kanye's stunt?

And why would having a beef with the Grammy's be mutually exclusive to the realization that it is voted by the membership?

Are you seriously defending Kanye West?

He wanted the award reassigned, or for Beck to just give it to Beyonce. Which means he wants his own opinion to trump the vote of the membership. He calls the organization (and the awards themselves) a joke. He's a kneejerk reactionary who can't conceive of his opinion being wrong. And he wasn't even nominated in the category. Just inserted himself into Beck's moment in the sun, as if it's his decision. Total dick move. Then he follows that by playing the race card backstage -- after he had time to think about it.

This kind of crap has been happening for over 10 years with this guy. (Weirdly, his 2009 VMA thing with Taylor Swift was also a snit over Beyonce deserving the win...) Kanye West is certainly an important and influential artist and producer, but that does not give him the right to crap all over other people's music and legitimate artistic recognition.
