  • AU506 - DAR6: Master of a Lonely World

This is the DAR thread of AU 506: The Power of Early Warfare.

This (final) DAR covers the elimination of the fifth and sith AI AI (7-5=2; 2-1=1). Use this thread to discuss your warmongering strategy, and recount your exploits.

    Yet more (optional) questions:
    1. Why did you pursue your warmongering style (suggested answers: autopilot, boredom, mental incapacity, sadism…).
    2. 2. How would you think the game might have evolved if you had spared those puny two leftover civs? 3. What would your overall strategy have been?
    4. Are you going to play the next AU: FlowerPower?

P.S. and off the record: many thanks to Dominae and all the team for this challenging map (without irony, this time).

The Chinese were destroyed. They were (also) at war with the Mayans, remember?.

Sorry to disappoint, but I went with simple Domination. Without building, or doing self-research, I'd have to go with Knights against Rifles. No, thanks.

        AU Mod, Emperor level

I have set restrictions for myself, to force war. I am not build any Wonders, nor science buildings (Libraries, and on). Also, research is at minimum (a scientist, or 10-20%) all the time.

Zululand has many luxuries, so no Cathedrals, or Colosseums are needed.

Having no high-cost buildings, and running a sole Scientist, the empire is making lots of cash. Its divided between upgrades, and rushes (Courthouses in cities that can use them, Temples to expand borders, Aqueducts to grow).

        880 AD
The Maya build the Statue of Zeus in Chichen Itza. A bit late.
It seems, that they started winning the war with India. Took a second city, after just killing units for a long time.

        890 AD
A Zulu force enters southern India. Not much, but reinforcements follow.
Maya and India sign a peace treaty. 4 turns before the alliance deal would have ran out.

        930 AD
Most Knights brought in. Thrown at Chichen Itza. And they take it, killing no less than 8 Musketmen.
Some Mayan units are killed off, and Workers captured.
We ask the Babylonians to join the party. Just to make sure no sneaky attack will be directed at former France.

        970 AD
Three Mayan cities fall. Of the existing wodners, Zululand now owns all but two.
Ok, now the Indians give me a reason to sign peace. They land an Elephant near four empty cities, of which I can reinforce only two. One is the FP city. Darned cheating AI. They give 220 gold, and a map for peace.

        1010 AD
The Babylonians build Smith's Trading Company.
        The Maya keep dying.

        1060 AD
The Maya are down to 4 cities now. Will be exterminated, otherwise Chichen Itza would flip sooner or later.
The Indians keep sending Elephants in, to move through. I won't ask them to leave, not for the fifth time. WAR!

        1100 AD
I used one of the MGLs to rush the Pentagon. What the heck does this do in the AU Mod? I noticed no visible changes.
India hit the Industrial Age, along with Babylon. I don't know what they have already, but I did see first Riflemen.
Indian cities start falling. Two for starters.
The Maya have one last city left.
I Switch some Trebuchet-cities to Muskets, and some Musket-cities to Knights, as more cities grow to useful size. Not that it matters at this point.
65% area, 75% population. The last Mayan city might trigger the win. Earliest in any of my games, that's for sure.

        1120 AD
One city flips back to the Maya. No biggie, as it only gets a Spear to defend.
Another city taken from the Indians. They don't have Rifles everywhere, yet.

        1130 AD
The defenders of the flipped Mayan city get "deposed".
Same thing happens to the last (third) Mayan capital. This seals their fate.
67% land, 77% population. Next civ is India with 15% of both.
Zululand rushes one more Temple, and kills one more Elephant - pro forma.
After hitting "End Turn", India and Babylon sign an Embargo against Zululand. Too late.

        1140AD
        Domination victory!

On the Pentagon & the AU mod, it makes armies stronger.
Also under the AU mod, the Military Academy does NOT. [Just spawns a new one every 25 turns]

It increases the attack factor bonus for being in an army.

As I recall, a normal army has 1.25 * avg attack factor. With the SW with that flag checked, it's 1.5 * avg attack factor.

Horse attack when not in an army : 2
Effective Horse attack in an army : 2.5
                And the bonus : 3

Knight attack when not in an army : 4
Effective Knight attack in a army : 5
                And the bonus : 6

Calvary attack when not in an army : 6
Effective Calvary attack in an army : 7.5
                And the bonus : 9

Also note that in the AI mod, every army has 4 extra hitpoints.
I needed every single one in one of my battles earlier.

Can both of you post your results in the HoF?

Posted. I see you have finally made the entry for AU 505, so I added a save there too.

I can see my results just fine. If no one else sees them, there must be a bug.

I see no other results for AU 505, or AU 506. I do see other results for AU 504.
