I hope there is a mod so we can chose wich city in our empire will be the Holy city of a religion we just found. Do you think it will be hard to implement ?

I love randomness as I feel it simulates reality and make for more interest in adapting in your tactics to defend it. Another fun consideration, is that both the capital and the holy city are vital to defend well(if you aren't lucky they are the same.)
But - I'm also in favor of free thinking, so mod ahead if you feel this is important. If people got to choose, I'm sure they would choose their capital or the most easily defended city.
Also remember, that if there is a choice the AI must also choose the best choices - like always the capital(assuming that's the best) or something like that.

I disagree. It's not like any historical ruler got to choose where a future great religion happened to appear. 'That Jesus who is called the Christ fellow is really stirring things up over there in Judea, pity that might get overrun by the Arabs in a couple of hundred years, let's bring him to Rome and offer him a major recording contract...' No, I don't think so.A billion citizens scurry like ants beneath the spires of the great city, their underpants as pure as the driven snow. The whole world is in the iron grip of The Bottom Inspectors.

You dont get to choose where your religious fanatics turn up. Thats how I will play.
But hey if you want to choose, then modding is the way to go

Well the problem you see in your reasoning - is that actually you are already choosing a lot in Civilization that never got chosen in real history. Choosing where to found the cities ? Choosing wich technologies to pursue ?Originally posted by snuggs

Fair enough, but I'd say while grand strategic decisions are one thing, pure chance happenings like the emergence of spiritual figures should not be subject to player control. You do represent the government, not a god, and though the experience of history gives you unnatural foresight that's not an argument for removing uncertainty altogether.Originally posted by Niptium

Yes, the godhood that you get to exercise in Civilization is quite excessive.Originally posted by Niptium

And YOU want to Increase it Even MORE???!
EDIT: Only SATAN (or Sauron) would have so much control over his subjects!

you know.... the prophet of Islam, Mohammad, pretty much chose the holy city of his religion.
Although it can be said that Islam has several and whatever, Muslims for a time prayed in the direction of Jerusalem, not Mecca. According to my prof, this only changed when the early Muslims finally came to a peace with the people of Mecca. Then that city became the holy city.
So some historical religious figures could be said to have picked their city.
Maybe that should just be a pro of picking Islam.Resident Filipina Lady Boy Expert.

Yes, but you aren't a historical religious figure
.

Ohhh yeahhhhhhh?!!?!?!?!
You'll be sorry when i come back from the dead.
Seriously now, as the player, you don't have any definate position really, as you transcend the game. It wouldn't be out of the question to be able to decide religious matters like holy cities.Resident Filipina Lady Boy Expert.

If I recall my history correctly, the Jewish religious leaders didn't want to have anything to do with Mohammed's offer of an alliance with him (and his new religion), and was he so piqued with that that he decided not to pray towards Jerusalem anymore.Originally posted by Ninot
