For those with zonealarm or other firewalls you might want to permit the program to access the net within the firewall before you start the game.

Wow, thank you sting, it appears that many files are missing or damaged, and Im assuming this is the problem? Anyway IM reinstalling DX 9 now, thanks a lot man.

Sweet sucess, just had my first onlien game, a victory: crushed one in industrial age, nuked another during modern, and then won by wonder points in the information.

This game is probably the best RTS Ive played.

    Ever.

Somehow, the DirectPlay 8 component of DirectX 9 get corrupted on some PC's, this caused the error message on my PC (and some other users as well)

To verify if your DirectX9 is corrupted, download and execute DXDIAG, which is in the following ZIP file:
News, Reviews & Betas which includes large community peer support

In DXDIAG, go to the Network tab and look if DirectPlay 8 is OK or corrupted. If it says DirectPlay is corrupted, you know for certain that's the cause.

No matter the outcome, try reinstalling DirectX 9.
You can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

    Good luck.

    Anne_nurmi,

Those are actually all fine; files for other languages are allowed to not exist. If you right-click on nations.exe, look at the properties and check the version, what version does it say? (In WinXP, you can just hold your mouse over the icon and it'll probably show you a popup with the version info.)

    Thanks,
    J

Hmmm... Did you get a "patching" dialog? If it failed at that point, you should have a file called patch.err in your game directory. This is an error log and it should explain which files failed to patch and why. Would you see if you have that file?

    Thanks,
    J

Wow such a nice, and quick, response from a dev Ive never seen!

Unfortunately the patch didn't work Ill have to wait for the stand-alone. Also I feel stupid for posting this here, but I already asked in the Tech Help forum and no one knew, as well as the game isnt listed on Microsoft Games Tech Support site, but will this patch fix the MP problem or is there something else Ill have to do?

Edit, my MP problem i s that clicking on Join Multiplayer Matchmaking or launching a game in gamespy arcade it says No Internet Connection found, please connect to the internet.

Thanks so much for your help.

My sincere apologies. The following should allow you to upgrade in spite of the stand-alone patch not being available. Please follow the directions completely.

    1) Download the patch from: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...N1801_0902.RTP

    2) Place the patch into your game directory.

    3) Go to your game directory via the command line.

    4) At the command line, type "rise /patch ron1801_0902.rtp" and type the Enter key.

That "should" do it. If the stand-alone isn't up soon, I'll see about our writing one ourselves real quick and putting it up.

    Hope this helps,
    J
