    A. My life responsibilities dont allow that
    B. What with all the puzzles, I can only take so much of it at a time.

Maybe this isnt THE game for me?

To be honest I think it's because you are unfamiliar with the genre. There are about 5 puzzles in the game that require thinking, and all the others aren't meant to really hold you up.

So I think the moral is, don't despair, and learn from how you are progressing each time because it's likely that the same or similar motifs will be used in the future.

The game is totally worth it, even today imo. Imagine how it felt to be playing it the best part of a decade ago.

Although admittedly, a few puzzles were unintuitive, and didn't really require logical thinking as much as gamey thinking. Which is why I prefer the puzzles in HL2.

after several tries, I manage to get the jump up the crates to the air shaft area. Crawled through it to the big room with lots of crates, and this machine gun thingie hanging from the ceiling. Too bad my health is only 33.

I managed to scramble to the back room with the ammo, that connects back to the room where I climbed up, but I really need health, so maybe its better to run across the room to the next corridor first.

One hot tip is make sure you don't rely solely on autosaves or quick saves. That way you can always go back to when you had decent health if you find you don't have enough for a tough bit.

yah, well, too late. Ive got this, and am finding it VERY difficult to cross the room at 33. I mean I can get across the room alive, but then i hit the head crabs and die.

I have a save at 48 health, but I have to do the whole crate puzzle again. Ive even done that already, and I am finding it hard to do again.

Some of the puzzles are not mental puzzles, but are mouse/keyboard coordination puzzles.

                        Noooooooooooo.

Restart on easy if you haven't already, and just persevere for a bit. You can't blow off HL.

Now that Ive had my fill of RON, I intend to restart HL. I can't say I crave it, though.

Well this time the whole first part went MUCH faster. I actually used the elevator this time, though between the head crabs at the bottom, and then the tentacles at the lower canal, Ive used up all my ammo. I also never did get into the grenade room, which I think I did last time.

Once again Im stuck at the suspended crates jumping puzzle. Not having spent dozens of hours playing mario may leave me at a disadvantage?

                              Im going to sleep.

You know about crouch jumping right? It's not essential early on but might make it easier if you are finding jumps tough.
