How do I 'free' my own slaves?

I have many slaves working in many cities and I want the freedom to create abolitionists. I can't get rid of my slaves except for either: 1) allowing an enemy to take the city, 2) building settlers as fast as possible, and keeping the food level negative, to starve the city.

How can I 'release' my own slaves?

There is no simple way. But you can do that : Remove all army from your city. The slaves will revolt. Send back the troopers in the city.This way is a lit bit dangerous and your city will suffer from it.

Or build the wonder "Freedom act" I believe. All your slaves will become citizens.

Yeah, but then there's no point in building the abolishionists.

Yes ! And after there is no more use of abolitionnist because there will be no more slave (slavers & abolitionist will disappear).

But the wonder will act as several abolitionnist will incite the slave to revolt in each foreign cities with slaves.
