The iPhone is normal price, the Samsung Galaxy Young is like 100 USD. I could also just wait and get something in Chile (but Z10 or iPhone 5c is ~900 USD there).

I don't know Chile, but in general SA is not a good place to buy electronics. Over here at least, the only way to get a decent price is through carrier subsidies.

I am paying ~300 USD for a Moto X (I'm paying it over 1.5 years though, no interest, which with 30% inflation is great), but right now list price is ~500 USD.

Yeah, SA is terrible for electronics.

I ended up waiting again. I am sorry, my second thread and I decide to wait again.

Just couldn't justify 650 and none of the other options were interesting to me right now.

Surprisingly, some things can be reasonable here in Chile with electronics though. With current exchange rate (not exchange rate of a year ago, prices haven't changed though), the price of some Apple computers is reasonable in Chile (when you include taxes).

Chile has always been among the more pro-free market/free trade countries in the region.

If you're staying in Chile longer than 2 years, don't they offer phones with postpaid plans? I tend to pay less for the postpaid plan (+phone) than I did for paying pre-paid and using promos. Theorhetically the pre-paid is cheaper, but because of the way they charge, going unlimited data ends up less for me even if I'm careful about timing of connections. (And a lot cheaper than if I forget to turn off the data connection!)

Well, this year I will be outside of Chile for >5 months. Next year might be similar.
