    I think that's a good system.

The x6 doesn't buy you much right now in games vs an x4, but I'd still prefer it for future-looking capabilities.

    computer thread

It's finally time to dump the amd64 and x800xl, they served me well.

I'm on somewhat of a budget so I guess Intel cpus are out of the question, here's what I have lined up so far:

    CPU
    Phenom II X6 1100T-199.99
Is the X6 worth the ~50$ extra over x4?

    RAM
    G.SKILL 8GB(2x4gb) DDR3 1600 - 64.34 (after promo code)
This seems like a really good deal, and its gotten good reviews.

    Motherboard
    ASUS M5A97 AM3+ ~$110
Least confident about this one. I think I could probably get away with one of the ~$50 ones. I really don't know what I need here.

    GPU
    Radeon 6850 - $164
Is the worth getting 6870 instead? Or the Geforce equivalent?

    Case
Cooler Master Elite Mid Tower Case - 39.99
    Cheapest

    Power Supply
hec XPOWER780 600W-$39.99 (mail in rebate)

    Cheap, decent reviews, 600W.

    Harddrive
    Western digital 1.5TB - 59.99

    1.5TB is enough I think.

    cd/dvd drive
    Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner 24X $20

    [OS]
Windows 7-hopefully I can get the student edition for 29.99.

    Total: ~$730
I guess the only question is whether I should downgrade the CPU and motherboard to save money, and possibly upgrade the GPU.
Working...
