  • Fluctuating Download Speeds

I'm kinda surprised I never asked this question before..

I've been downloading since 1995, but I've never really questioned the deep technical reasons why speeds fluctuate, I know the basics, but what are the real reasons, why do speeds jump up and down all around so rapidly and so much?

Network conditions, CPU load, how many other computers are downloading from the same server at that moment, disk read or write speeds and disk conditions, ISP bandwidth availability ...

So that you have something to think about whilst waiting for the download to finish.

So that the tubes don't get ripped by the fast moving data

You're drunker than usual if you think that made any sense at all...
