There was also the Italian ruling earlier this week which said it is not illegal to download music or movies as long as you are using it for home purposes and not trying to make money off of it.

It's a perfectly valid question. Apple couldn't care less if they have to withdraw from a market as small as Norway's.

If you'd read the article you'd know that France and Germany were also signing on to the decision.

No, they're not. French and German consumer groups are supporting the ruling. And given that the French government has already sided with Apple before...

France was a battleground over the issue once before. In 2004 its Competition Council was asked to rule on whether or not Apple's refusal to licence its DRM code to other vendors was anti-competitive.

The Competition Council said that it did not break French law because the technology was not necessary in order to operate a digital download service.

... I doubt much is going to come of it.

All it takes is France and Germany agreeing with the Norweigen point of view and then a law gets passed in the EU parlement.

Dumbass. BTW I like how you were the one completely wrong in this thread but you call me names. Classic Drake.

Well, unless you have some evidence that the French Competition Council has changed its mind on the issue in the last couple years, that possiblity doesn't seem very worrying for Apple.

How does the international copyright convention and such affect this sort of ruling? Particularly the Italian ruling, actually. If something is copyrighted in the US, correctly, according to our laws, aren't other countries more or less obligated to protect that copyright by treaty (Regardless of their own laws)?

What do you think is going to cost Apple more money, Pekka? Losing the online music sales they currently make in Norway or losing sales of both online music and MP3 players all across the world if they open up the closed iPod/iTunes universe? Some strategist you are...
