'We' don't want physicality reduced, do we? 'We' want players' heads protected, because hits to the head have severe effects on their health both short and long term. 'We' being the owners, GMs, players, and most fans (I should think).

Focusing body checks on the body is the point.

I agree 100%. I just don't think that the rule changes go far enough.

I think it will reduce the number of hits like the Cooke on Savard, Richards on Booth, and Mitchell on Toews if not eliminate them. Players do not want to take five-minute majors or get suspended.

Now, get no-touch icing and many of the worst injuries would be eliminated from the game.

Getting serious about charging and boarding would be good.

Oh, and there is the matter of the equpiment. Having pads a la football (hard shells on shoulders and elbows) is likely a problem.

If you eliminate the chance of not getting hurt yourself when you throw these huge hits, that might turn down the intensity of hitting and the incidence of injury from those.

So, I guess I agree with you. They do need to go further.
