Nobody says that they clinched "keeping the division lead for another night" because keeping the division lead for another night or week settles nothing decisively.

Chelios is extraordinarily fit-- or at least has been throughout his career--As a 5th or 6th d-man he doesn't have to play that much and his experience might have a settling effect on some younger players

All this speaking of clinching made me look and I could see that the Caps are actully very very close to clinching their division. Their next win or Atlanta loss will do it (33 point lead currently with Atlanta having 17 left to play). The Caps also have a stranglehold on the number one seed position in their conference with a 15 point bulge. Only a serious serious slump combined with an amazing run by the Pneguins can deny them that spot
