Obviously Buffalo is OK, and I think Mile High is open, so Denver would be good too.

Not all Canadian cities could do it. Vancouver does not have an ideal climate for the purpose even if they had an open stadium, which they don't.
Ya its a pretty big risk weather wise since either a big blizzard or a warm spell could kill things. Even in Buffalo with reasonably decent weather they had issues with the ice-- apparently the ice quality was pretty poor

I`d say they want to keep this as a spectacle such that you probably only want to do one or two of these a year at most. More and NBC doesn`t cover it because its routine and routine hockey doesn`t get the ratings

According to the tsn folks, New York, Denver and Montreal may be interested and they were also touting Toronto as a possibility

A neutral site might be appealing too for a spectacle-- Lambeau Field anyone

although there were critics to this idea-- Bob Clark was basically saying with playoff races being so tight, regular season games really matter and he hates the idea that important games are determined in substandard conditions

Bjut nye, you do like the little personal digs. For instance you said

Since arguably everyone in this apolyton league ARE rivals, this just IS a shot at everyone's intelligence and disposition. A mild shot admittedly but it is the type of thing you do a lot. I ignored 3 or 4 aimed at me in the last couple of weeks alone

Personally I don't really care all that much but such comment often lead to the personal squabbles that get so BORING to most people in here and lead to moderator intervention. I do also wonder at the motivation of ANYONE that tries to get personal on a poly board.

I`ll jump off my soapbox now and get back to hockey buit on that score it is getting more and more difficult to find a bunch of positive things to say about the Oil other than they have a bunch of young guys and their goaltending has often been very good.

If you want to discuss any other teams (Flames Canadiens being my favorites) I am always happy to participate. If you not judge me to be intelligent or good natured enough to debate, thats your decision. I make similar decisions in life and on boards all the time but never am so tactless as to explain the reasons for such decisions
I gather you take things too personally as well, especially since I have not taken 3 or 4 shots at you period outside of one evening, and you certainly didn't ignore them.

You're a good trooper, but did it ever occur to you that you are not helping?

It sounded to me like Clark's largest concern was player injury due to bad ice.

I think they could put more into the ice. Build a cold house over the surface leading up to game time. Yes, it would cost dollars, but you're selling a heck of a lot more tickets than normal, and TV revenues could be factored in.

It isn't a personal insult (its a general insult and incredibly mild), so get back to discussing the issue at hand.

As for the Winter Classic, pretty cool . Though Buffalo is lucky since they aren't hosting an NFL playoff game this weekend . I'd wonder how quickly they could get rid of the ice and turn it back to a grass field. That may have impacts in places like New York or Boston/New England.

I caution very heavily if you accept such "general insults" that any 5 year old can figure out who it's intended to be applied to. We're not stupid, so let's not pretend like he threw the comment out there to apply to no one in particular, shall we?

Again, you're saying insults are acceptable. Is that really the direction you want to head in?

I get so many mixed signals from the admin here...
                  [acceptable insult]
Some people are too stupid to live. I guess I have to look elsewhere to expect to have intelligent administration.
                  [/acceptable insult]

If mild ribbing in sports threads wasn't accepted, you'd have been banned a number of times in the last few months, so are you really sure this is really the direction you want to head in?

I have been banned for less than mild ribbing in the past. I've been banned even for saying someone was "clueless", if you'll recall. I'm asking for consistency.

It's one thing to be "ribbing" someone on the quality of their team, it's another thing to make comments saying someone is stupid. The main reason is it escalates. Do you really want me to start replying to every single one of nye's personal digs (which, as Flubber points out, happen with regularity) with personal digs of my own? We've seen how that ends up, so I'm asking for the admin to start enforcing a zero-personal-attack (or "general insults") policy in these threads so we don't take it into large personal attacks like before.

That's something I'd expect the admin to appreciate. I don't think these need to get personal at all, and to be honest I'm stunned that it's allowed at all and even defended by you.

People have been banned for statements made in the hockey thread in the last couple weeks for attacks deemed over the line.

I decided, though, to be a bit lenient towards you with some of your personal comments to nye (involving "drunken bitterness") around Christmastime, however (and no, that isn't an invitation to discuss the particulars here and now). If you wish, though, comments like that can get you a 24 hour ban.

                        Now.. back on topic.

Well, I'm sure we're all better off now that the admin have given the blessing to "general insults" in these threads. So instead of saying "You're clearly drunk and bitter", I can say "Someone I know is clearly drunk and bitter" and this is 100% acceptable? I'm so confused where "the line" is, and you guys refuse to define it.

So why don't you just do that, for everyone's sake? Draw the frickin' line so we know where to stop. Otherwise this arbitrary gongshow will continue ad naseum.

I still think Oiler fandom is missing some who are in the closet.

How anyone can be a fan of the Oilers today is beyond me. I'd have to think such people are lonely and clearly stupid. Such fans are notorious drunkards, and you'd have to be to like the team in any way. Maybe these people enjoy watching a failure of a team because it makes their lives look awesome in comparison.

I think I can get used to this new standard of posting.
