    • A Leap in the Dark
The Strugglew to Create the American Republic
      by John Ferling

Maybe the best work of history I've read on the Revolution (or more precisely, the period beginning with the French and Indians War and going through 1801.)

One thing that really impresses me is the almost totally ignoring of Revolutionary battles. Rather, Ferling discusses the political strategy that lead to certain battles and the political ramifications of those battles. For example, the United Colonies' invasion of Canada in 1775 arose from the colonialists' belief that, if they took Quebec, Lord North's government would fall and would be replaced by a less anti-American government.

Well, that doesn't say much. You might as well compare him to Jan Guillou...

Wait. Brown and Clancy write well researched page turners. Although you scoff, this takes talent.

[On the other hand, Brown's "Digital Fortress" was utterly unbelievable.]

The film was surprisingly close to this book. Chigurh is still very scary.

                • Presently reading:

Mere Christianity - C.S. Lewis; I think it's a good introduction to christianism, and a good way to explain some theological aspect of the christian doctrines in simple words.

But I think Chesterton is more enjoyable to read, and really more funny.

                  Divine Comedy (Hell) - Dante
Surprisingly I enjoy it very much. I wish I would be able to begin Purgatory and Heaven, next week.

In English, that would be "People of the Spirit". It's a book about the first 30 years of Christianity, as told through Acts.

                            • "Le pharaon noir" by Christian Jacq. A bit hollywoodesque but entertaining story about pharaoh Piankhy's struggle against Prince Tefnakht during the Third Intermediate Period (1070 BC- 664 BC) of ancient Egypt.
