  • Is it me or are Americans starting to die in increasing numbers from Climate Change related natural disasters?

91 people from an itty-bitty Tornado - including 20 children!?

Isn't it usually loads of damage and a drunk redneck in a trailer park!?

Not to mention almost 2,000 from Hurricane Katrina not so long ago...

Was climate change to blame for the March 18, 1925 tornado that killed 695 people? Or is it possible that tornadoes have always happened, and have little to do with CO2 emissions?

Except only one of the Tri-State tornadoes was rated EF5, compared with 4 in the 2011 outbreak - so are we saying that the 2011 outbreak was 4 times as worse as 1925...?

The deaths can simply be attributed to much more inferior construction methods back then, and sheer bad luck.

Last tornado I was in was hurricane Ike. We were in our metal bunker and it went directly over us. The suction pulled the air out of our lungs.

That's good to know. But apparently for a settlement slap bang in the middle of Tornado Alley, they don't seem terribly well equipped to deal with them: No cellars; flimsy looking buildings etc. That's what really surprised me about the casualty numbers, especially nowadays - surely many more lives could have been saved otherwise?

Seems to me that tornadoes happen pretty frequently, and randomly hit big cities from time to time in Oklahoma. There are areas of North Texas that if they ever built a city there, thousands would die every year.

If you're going to blame climate change, find some stats showing the number/intensity of tornadoes (etc) is higher now than in the past, at least...
