You do realize that one can be Republican, and also support background checks for gun owners, yes? Not everyone goose steps behind everyone else on every issue. Republicans can hold different positions on many issues among themselves.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.Comment

Nobody actually cares about gun control except for gun owners. In elections the gun owners come out in droves to reward/punish politicians on gun control and nobody else even remembers it. That is why (apart from the fact that people have realized it's stupid and doesn't ****ing work) gun control is a dead issue.Comment

Fairly sure that's more what the Republicans are doing nowadays (the 'majority of the majority' stuff, yelling at Boehner for trying to find compromises for example). I'm not sure that Obama is exactly a coalition-builder, but I find that more a fault of his leadership abilities rather than his intent.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
