  • Obama the Lame Duck...

You know you're f*cked when: you can't even pass a bill that has 90% public support...

    Shot down by gun control...

    USA! USA! USA!
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

90% support... and half of the population votes for Republicans for some reason... does this mean the Republicans can ignore what 80+% of their voters want and get away with it?

From what I have seen the Reps get away with a lot...

You're very simple minded sometimes, aren't you?

You do realize that one can be Republican, and also support background checks for gun owners, yes? Not everyone goose steps behind everyone else on every issue. Republicans can hold different positions on many issues among themselves.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

I never said Republicans couldn't support background checks you ******. In fact I said the opposite.

Nobody actually cares about gun control except for gun owners. In elections the gun owners come out in droves to reward/punish politicians on gun control and nobody else even remembers it. That is why (apart from the fact that people have realized it's stupid and doesn't ****ing work) gun control is a dead issue.

That's basically it. People say they want more gun regulations, but they aren't going to vote on that issue.

Except you are a gun owner, so you have no understanding of the opposite side of the issue (as you've displayed many times). You could be right about it not being a hot button issue, or the shock of Newtown could have moved the political landscape. I guess we'll find out next year.

We know it hasn't moved the political landscape because the polls are back to pretty much their pre-newtown levels on the issue.

                    Good article.

Yes, Newtown shocked the nation – but the top priority for the public remains the economy. According to Gallup, only 4 per cent of Americans think that gun control is the “most important problem facing the country today”.
Obama's difficult personality has doubled the size of the challenge. Gloating in victory, adolescent in defeat – the Prez doesn’t make it easy to work with him. Why should conservative senators give him a legislative victory after he has spent four years painting them as knuckle-dragging rednecks who hate women and the poor?
Hopefully Obama will now realize that no matter how right he thinks he is, there are other people that he has to work with that think they are just as right. That's called Democracy...and high time the President learned that his "my way or the highway" style of government just doesn't work.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

Gun stocks fell on the news. No panic buying windfall anymore.

Obama tries "my way or the highway" style of government?!

Fairly sure that's more what the Republicans are doing nowadays (the 'majority of the majority' stuff, yelling at Boehner for trying to find compromises for example). I'm not sure that Obama is exactly a coalition-builder, but I find that more a fault of his leadership abilities rather than his intent.
