It is however social evil of the same type as racism, classism, ageism or sexism.
I think that in magnitude it probably comparable to ageism.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

To be fair, there was a recent op-ed in the WaPo by some law professor or other arguing that we should make it illegal to discriminate against ugly people who apply for jobs. It was hardly a convincing argument (especially since he included evidence that the "discrimination" is largely subconscious), but somebody agrees with Hera. For what that's worth.

Have non-attractive/ugly people suffered from historical slavery? Disfranchisement? Quasi-legal lynching? Segregation? Employment discrimination (on systematic, widespread scale)? Housing discrimination?A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Studies would seem to indicate "yes" to most all those."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

Somewhat.
Of course we didn't enslave ugly people (unless you count racial preferences and the others as "ugly" - a stretch) but I've yet to see a study where ugly people were favoured for anything."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

I can't be bothered looking but I'm sure you've heard of them as well as I."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

Yes, there are absolutely studies out there showing that ugly or fat people, especially women, face discrimination based on their looks and/or weight.
So it's a valid question. Should we legislate that, too?Follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/DaveDaDouche
