A majority of the early Russian losses were mechanical breakdown. Also, most were early generation light tanks/armored cars. The total Russian armored force (nominally 34,000 and change fully tracked armored vehicles) consisted of just around 1,000 early T-34 types and a little over 500 KV types. Those were the only really combat effective vehicles.
