So as LoTM pointed out, the police officers and firefighters are also "needy whiners?"

Members of the uniformed services are fine to voice their opinions as well, and again, they should bear no greater weight than those of anyone else.
Ground Zero at the end "belongs" to the 8 million residents of NYc and the millions who visit, and everyone who will do either. Several thousand families should not, must not, make policy for everyone else on the use of this land.If you don't like reality, change it! me

I'm not saying we should bend over for the families of 9/11 or the firefighters or police officers based on their opinions.
I'm saying we should give their opinions more respect (respect =! agreement) rather than hurl out insensitive remarks like, "whining losers" and so forth.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Why should their opinions get more respect in terms of memorial design? Are they architects? Are they the sole users of the memorials? The memorial in theory is for those who died, not the relatives. They are more emotionally vested, but they are not more knowledgeable, so why would their opinions merit more respect? If you don't like reality, change it! me

Respect as in hearing them out without retorting to mean attacks.A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

By the way, is the WTC memorial to be "underground" the way the Viet Nam Vet memorial is ? . You start at ground level, and walk down a slope - the slabs with the names get bigger as you get further along into the war, when casualties were higher. However the top of each slab is always at ground level. Then as you get to the later years of the war, you walk up, till you are at ground level again. Theres a symbolism to that is part of what makes it moving, I think. Throughout you are in the open air, with the sky above. Is that what is envisioned for the WTC?
I would note that while the VNV memorial is for all of us, those with personal connections to the vets have found it especially important. I would also suggest that what they have found moving, has also been found moving by others.
Is there any evidence that the design which concerns the families, and police and firefighters, is in fact favored by the rest of the population of NY?"A person cannot approach the divine by reaching beyond the human.
