It doesn't matter, the age of massed infantry is over. Any massive mobilization of troops by anyone would be nuke fodder. I wouldn't go fight a foreign battle unless there was a truly evil super power comparable to the Nazis or Imperial Japan waging war against the US.

I would probably get into some area of electronics and communications, possibly tech support for weapons systems or surveillance, intellegence, etc. My skills are too valuable to be wasted as a foot soldier. There are enough men 18-26 pumping gas who would be better suited.
To us, it is the BEAST.

I'm steering my entire life to the point where no matter what happens, I'll be safe in my laboratory, healthly funded by various means.

In case of war, I'm the guy making the better mousetrap.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.
      -Richard Dawkins

I'm too old for the armed forces.

Besides, isn't war profiteering considered an essential service? I could avoid the draught that way, I suppose.

Frankly, no matter what the cause, I will tell the armed forces to go to hell. If they don't want gays in peacetime, they can't have them in wartime, either.

            What about the Coast Guard?

Next best thing is the Navy, so that's what I chose.
            HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

I'm with you Boris - I don't care what the cause, conscription is immoral, and by extension any nation trying to use conscription is immoral as well.

I would never serve, if forced to do so.

There would be a slim chance of me volunteering, if it were in my own self interest, but I fail to see how that's a possibility.

Definetely run away to Canada. I'm a pacifist, I don't think I could kill another person and I don't want to find out.

I'll already be in the marines, so the question is moot imn my case.

I would pick army (infantry), because that was what I was trained to. My rank is vänrikki (second lieutenant).

Depends on what kind of war, whether I think the war is just or not.
