the military is a strange place. Boot camp is the hardest- pun intended. Finding a place to jerk off isn't easy. The toilet stalls had no doors on them!. but you had to go through an initial training camp right?
The one when you first join and they brainwash...err I mean introduce you to the military lifestyle. They do a clean jerk (maybe not the right word) type of thing. The shock treatment essentually. they take away everything you once had- including your hair.

But I served at the T2 Göta Logistics Regiment in a platoon that acted as fire men and cleaned men and machines from radioactive/chemical contamination.
My brother in law who served at the Svea Life Guards (no, it has nothing to do with Baywatch...) as a military police had it a lot tougher.
All in all, since Sweden hasn´t been in a war since 1814 (against Norway) military training is not highly prioritized in Swedish society. Unlike the US or Israel.I love being beaten by women - Lorizael

When they went to the lottery you had one year that you might be drafted and you knew your number. Mine was 177 and they though they would get to 175 that year so I wasn't sure and I was not a full time student then. They only got up to 150 something though. More volunteers than they expected. Some of the voluteers were people that knew they were destined to have their number come up because it was low.
The US now has an all volunteer military. Thats much better for morale and the US can go back to being a largely civilian nation as it had been for most of its history. Volunteers make better soldiers at least when you don't need everyone you can get.
It also upsets us civilians less when the military has to fight. They all volunteered for it and there is no draft to protest. There is no doubt in my mind that if we didn't have a draft there wouldn't have been nearly as much protesting over the Viet Nam War. Shortly after they stopped sending draftees to Viet Nam the protesting went way down and US politics became less volitile.
